My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Bestselling Vampire Romance Series “The Firsts” introduced the First Blood Vampires, unique upon the earth.
First
How did they come to be? Where did they come from? This novella presents the origins of the First Blood vampires on this new world. This tale takes us back 6000 years to a time when mankind began civilization on this new world. Someone in the universe knew that the day would come when the world would need guardians. The universe had a plan.
They had died, gone to their eternal resting place. Now, awakened again in a new world, naked, strangers, they had no idea why. The days that followed revealed a plan put in place by the powers-that-be that led events in the universe. The final survivors of their dying world, a group of shocked people discover that apparently death isn’t forever. They would build their lives again, but this time, something else has plans for them.
These are the parents of the First Bloods, the days of the beginning of magic on earth…origins of a race with great destiny to protect life. It appears that we’re not alone after all.
For those not familiar with this Bestselling series, you may want to take a look back at C.L.Quinn’s First Blood series that begins with the book Forbidden Days and circles back to these days thousands of years earlier as we finish the tale of the guardians of earth.
Interesting vampire origin story!

World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️☺️😮
The heroine: Berra – she awakens naked, on a lush planet with only one sun. She knows she came from the resting place, where her people go when they die. She is from a place called Sodillo on a dying planet with two suns. She had a horrible life and was on her own from a young age, she survived the best way she could in harsh times when the planet was burning up from its two suns and food was scarce. She often prayed for death and was not too happy that the powers that be brought her back to life on this new planet for some unknown reason.
The Hero: Aiso – He woke up alongside Berra, though he was happy that they got a second chance at life. Everyone in the last days on his planet had been dying far too young and he wanted a full life. He was happy to be on a new planet with plenty of resources and cool, clean air. He knew that he was put there with Berra for a reason and wanted her from the start. Though she had a prickly personality and wanted no help with just about anything.
The story: Aiso and Berra meet another couple that were also brought for a second chance on this new planet and they later find that there are 60 couples that were given the same chance as them. They all remembered their former lives, and some had baggage from those lives that they had to deal with in addition to their new circumstances, but they were given direction from the powers that be via a storyteller who told them it was their job to teach the indigenous people and do their best to make sure what happened to their planet did not happen on Earth. Also that their children were to be guardians of the planet and would be born more powerful than them and the rest of the people on the planet. Though the magic to give them their powers has some trade-offs, like the fact that they will not be able to stand ultraviolet light.
This story was definitely interesting and after the main characters had children, the children grew up very fast (in only a few small chapters) then the focus changed to one of the Vampire children and her falling in love. So it was different than your average romance, even for a prequel. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either, though I had already read book 1, Forbidden Days and loved it. I do plan to read more of this series.
