Audiobook Review: My Rules (Kingston Lane, #2) by T.L. Swan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Rules by T.L. Swan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lover meets player—by the bestselling author of the Miles High Club series.

It started with a list.

Tired of meeting nightmares, I decided to study the dos and don’ts of dating.

And who better to help me with my master list than the king of red flags himself?

Blake Grayson—neighbor, friend, mischief maker, and player extraordinaire.

He knows how to spot a playboy from a mile away. He is the prime example, after all.

So when he offers to help me avoid Mr. Wrong by sharing what to look for, I have no choice but to take him up on it.

We start a game.

He will become my wingman, and I’ll become his.

He coaches me through my singledom, while I go on his journey of play.

We double-date, eat ice cream at midnight, and laugh.

Boy, do we laugh…

But while I watch every woman he meets fall madly in love with him, I stumble across a major I know exactly why they fall.

Because I can feel it too.

His charm is intoxicating, and damn it, the man is addictive as drugs.

But it’s not happening. I won’t let it.

I’m not that gullible young girl anymore.

Blake will never settle down, and I know in my heart he’s not the man for me.

I have one go at this second chance of happiness, and I am not going to mess it up.

This time, I play by my rules.

Even if he won’t.

My Rules

The Hero: Blake – he is a doctor and a playboy with a definite type. He goes for the bad girls with lots of sexual stamina. So he doesn’t see himself settling down anytime soon. Though for quite a while he has had a huge crush on his good girl neighbor Rebecca. She is the ex of one of his good friends, so is off limits. She has him deeply into the friend zone and is still getting over the end of her marriage. But he can’t stop thinking about her and watching her when they go out together with their group of friends.

The heroine: Rebecca – her husband cheated on her with his secretary for eighteen months. Cliché, yes, but true and it hurt her deeply. They have been separated for over twelve months and her ex is fighting the divorce. Though Rebecca is in the rebound stage, ready to start dating to get her ex out of her system. She has only been with one man and needs to play the field a bit, she is not looking to settle down again after what her husband put her through. She is tired of wallowing and wants to get over herself and jump back into the dating pool.

The Story: This book goes through the relationship between these two next door neighbors as Rebecca is dealing with trying to divorce John, her cheating ex-husband, and Blake as he continues having a crush on Rebecca, helping her whenever she needs help with just about anything, while continuing to have hook-ups with random women. Meanwhile, friends of theirs are getting married soon and they have all the wedding hoopla, including a wild bachelor weekend in Vegas, and bachelorette party at home.

Rebecca doesn’t know much about men and needs some help in her dating endeavors after a few dating fiascos, dick picks and all. While talking to Blake about her troubles connecting with a good man, he offers to help her by being her wingman. He says he can help her hone her douche-dar and help her wean out the players. Who better but the king of the players himself?

I had high hopes for this, since I liked the premise and I have loved many of T.L. Swan’s books. She does relationship romance so well. Her books are generally around 500+ pages and the stories focus mainly on the romance between the two main characters, like the growth of the romance from the beginning as they get to know each other and fall in love. I always end up thinking the book goes by so fast because I enjoy the progression of the feelings between the characters as they get close. The same holds true for this book.

I loved all the characters on Kingston Lane. The guys are hilarious after finding a flash drive which had some crazy romance manuscripts that were most likely written by one of their neighbors. They get into the books which they call vampire and alien porn. They are very interested in the aliens with diphalia and figure that is why women have such high expectations in bed. I also love when Blake gets into a slump and can’t figure out why he isn’t interested in the easy blondes he usually favors.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by C.J. Bloom and Marcio Catalano. Both of these are terrific narrators and did a great job on this book. Marcio Catalano has a deep, but soft voice that is very sexy and perfect for Blake. C.J. Bloom has a nice soft, feminine voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters, she is very expressive.
