Audiobook Review: Callum (Blue Halo, #7) by Nyssa Kathryn. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Callum by Nyssa Kathryn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One wedding, one fake relationship, and a threat no one saw coming.

Attending a wedding is dead last on Fiona Lock’s list of priorities. She has two options: Stay home and let the family gossip mill speculate on why she isn’t there, or attend the wedding and pretend she’s just fine. The decision is obvious. Not only does she choose option B…she may have mentioned a boyfriend she doesn’t have. With the nuptials imminent, the race is on to find her “perfect man” who doesn’t exist.

When he’s not running the security business he owns with his friends, ex-Marine Callum Thomas spends his down time indulging in his favorite hobby—reading. Of course, it’s not just the books luring him to the library every other day. It’s also the sexy, sassy librarian, Fiona, who can’t resist putting Callum in his place at every turn. When he discovers she’s in need of a fake boyfriend, he’s determined to claim the role…and then slowly, cautiously win over the prickly woman he can’t get out of his head.

His plans are quickly disrupted when Fiona starts receiving threats, drastically speeding up his timeline. Callum knows any distance between him and Fiona is no longer an option. Letting her out of his sights could mean danger creeping in…and potentially losing Fiona before she’s even his to claim.

Callum

Lots of romantic suspense!

The heroine: Fiona – her sister was getting married to the man that broke Fiona’s heart and Fiona promised months ago that she was going to bring a date. Her sister didn’t believe her, so when they talked recently, Fiona doubled down on her lie and now she is stuck trying to find someone to take along. Fiona works at the Cradle Mountain library. She works for a grumpy boss who wasn’t too happy with her after she turned him down for a date.

The Hero: Callum – he is a former Marine, special operations, who was kidnapped and forced to be a test subject in a research project to create super soldiers. He and his eight-man team were held for over two years and now that they are free, they have started a security firm called Blue Halo Security in Cradle Mountain Idaho. They do private security and also take on off-the-books government contracts to do things that normal human teams cannot get done.

The Story: Fiona has a huge crush on Callum, who came by the library often. One day when she was lamenting to her coworker about needing a boyfriend, Callum walked into the library and overheard her. She knew he had enhanced hearing (as well as eyesight, speed, strength, and more) so she knew he heard her woes. Fiona was scared of getting her heart broken again, so she told herself nothing could ever happen between her and Callum. Callum was attracted to Fiona and a month ago when Fiona was held at gunpoint and the man was shot in the head right next to her, he had determined to take her out, and with her needing a date, he thought it was the perfect time to ask.

Fiona’s story was a good one. She was getting threatened over text messages and thought someone had been breaking into her house. Not to mention her crazy family. Her sister slept with Fiona’s ex while they were still together and was now marrying him. It wasn’t apparent who her stalker was since there were a bunch of suspects in this story, so the suspense was pretty good. The romance was good as well. I loved the way Callum was so protective of Fiona.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter. They are both fantastic narrators with great voices. They are both great at doing different voices for different characters. They both sound natural and not like they are reading; both are very expressive. They are two of my favorite narrators and you can always count on them to do a terrific job.
