Audiobook Review: Date with a Demon (Possessive Monsters, #2) by Maggie Mayhem. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Date with a Demon by Maggie Mayhem

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A devilish grin. Six-pack abs. And horns!

When I enlist the help of Redrock Protective Services, I expect to meet with one of the company’s gargoyle brothers. Instead, I find myself face-to-face with a demon. By the heated glow in his eyes, guarding is the last thing he wants to do with my body.
Eamon is rippling with muscles, rides a motorcycle, and has extra, uh…parts…for my pleasure—all the things that have my body screaming YES! Too bad a demon lover is a distraction I can’t afford, not when I’m running from a centuries-old spirit intent on stealing my identity.
But every second I spend in his penthouse makes me fall a little more for him as I uncover his caring and gentle side, and soon, I’m in over my head.
Wrapped up in the arms of my very own possessive monster, I search for a permanent solution to my problem. Can I find it in time, or am I doomed to lose myself forever?

Date with a Demon is a standalone paranormal romance with a hunky, protective demon, mouthy witches, and evil wizards. Sweet & steamy. HEA guaranteed.

The heroine: Tansie (a.k.a. Dani) – she went to Redrock Protective services to hire a gargoyle bodyguard, though she was surprised that her guardian would be a demon. She has an adorable small parrot named Chicken Nugget, which she often kept in the hood of her hoodie. When the wall fell years ago, she found out that her mother was not who she said she was. Her mother was an old and powerful witch who stole the bodies of young women to keep her young and immortal. She had adopted Tansie and planned to use her as a vessel.

The Hero: Eamon – he was part owner of Redrock Protective services with the Redrock gargoyle brothers. Eamon was interested in Tansie as soon as he met the pretty human woman. She wanted a guard until she could find a way to get rid of her adoptive mother for good. Eamon lives in a warded penthouse apartment with the Redrock gargoyles. He takes Tansie’s job and sets her up in his wing of the penthouse. Eamon was trapped and forced to work for a wizard for centuries and since he was freed, he was lonely and sowed his wild oats as a way to connect with others, though he was still lonely and hasn’t been tempted by women for a while.

The Story: Tansie didn’t know she had her own magic, though Eamon could easily see she had plenty of magic coming out of her. She finds out when they meet another witch at the library, while she is looking up ways to foil her mothers’ plans. She then starts to learn to use her magic so that she will be able to do the spell that counts when it is time to do so.

I liked the characters, though the story was a bit slow moving, and I did find my attention straying somewhat. There were some steamy intimate scenes. Like in many romance novels, the two main characters wanted something more than just hooking up, but each of them didn’t think the other wanted anything more, so there was a lot of angst about what their relationship really was. There were a lot of witchy scenes and magic in this one, which I liked.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Troy Duran and Michelle Sparks. Troy Duran is one of my favorite male narrators, he has a deep, sexy voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters. I search out books that he narrates specifically, so I was glad to see this series in his list. Michelle Sparks also is a good narrator, she sounds very natural and does a terrific job.
