Review: Hunter’s Trial (Xarc’n Warriors: Mountains, #5) by Lynnea Lee. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hunter’s Trial by Lynnea Lee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

YVETTE
Of all the muscular purple warriors, I get stuck with the grumpy one.
Stuck in the cliffside lodge for months, I’m going stir-crazy while all the other women get to explore with their mates. Even Judy has her biker beau. I need to get out of here, so I ask Bre’k to take me foraging. I’m not surprised when, yet again, he says no.

At the clubhouse, after a freak storm cut the power to our lodge, one of the men offers to take me foraging. All of a sudden, Mr. Grumpy decides he wants to take me out after all!

What kind of I-don’t-want-you-but-he-can’t-have-you-either bullcrap is this? I don’t think so, Grumpy. But, to stop a fistfight from breaking out in Gabby’s kitchen, I agree—for one trip. Too bad the mate bond has other ideas.

BRE’K
She’s the sunshine that brightens our ledge.

Yvette was terrified of all hunters when she first arrived on the ledge. Not wanting to scare her, I learned to limit myself to human noises. No growling, no snarling, and absolutely no purring.

Desperate to keep her safe, I offer to look for the items she needs instead of taking her out foraging. I didn’t expect another male to offer to take her instead!

After shutting him down, the goal is simple: get her items, then get her back in one piece. Too bad my purring chest, mouthy shuttle, and a badly-timed mate bond decide to complicate things.

Hunter’s Trial

Such an awesome alien romance series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙💜❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 🙂🥰😎😄😉

The heroine: Yvette – she was one of the women that lived in the Raiders camp and when May and a few of the other women wanted to steal a Xarc’n shuttle from the Raiders and escape from the camp, which was more of a prison, Yvette helped them by starting a fire which was used as a distraction. Since everyone was freed from the raiders, Yvette now lives at the Ledge, which is a lodge style mansion on the Ledge of the mountain. Though compared to some of the other women, Yvette feels like she doesn’t have a purpose and is not very good at anything.

The Hero: Bre’k – he is a Xarc’n warrior who is assigned to the mountain, since the Bugpocalypse began Bre’k has been kind of a loner working on his own fighting the bugs on the mountain. He knew that Yvette was his mate as soon as he first saw her, but he sensed how afraid she was of the alien men, so he kept quiet about it. He also tried to sound as human as possible, not growling or purring, since that seemed to scare her quite a bit.

The Story: Yvette was no longer afraid of the Xarc’n warriors and since Bre’k was one of the only unmated hunters, she had tried to see if she could be his mate, but he seemed grumpy and there was no trace of the purring that the aliens usually did when they were around their mates. Plus, he often seemed grumpy, so she thought he didn’t like the fact that he was stuck guarding the lodge because she was there. Though one day he touches her and can no longer hide his purring, then he can’t let her go, which is a sure sign that she is his mate.

I have loved most of the books in the original series as well as in this spinoff. The plots are great and there is always a ton of action and of course bug fighting. I have been reading one or two then taking a long break and then reading more. Every time I read one, I find myself loving all the action and the world building. I find myself remembering why I love this series so much. This one is no different. I love the fact that Yvette wants to pull her weight and learn to live in this new world. She wants to learn to forage and to fight like many of the other humans and she becomes such a strong character.
