Audiobook Review: Court of Death (Courts and Kings, #2) by K.A. Knight. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Court of Death by K.A. Knight

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Many things go bump in the night, and I am one of them.

I made a deal with a god, with death itself, to save someone I love.

I thought I had the upper hand, but I was wrong. From the moment he saw me, this god was determined to make me his… but his life is filled with death and is no place for the living. Trying to survive his world might just turn me into one of the lost souls that surround him.

But I have my own secrets, my own past.

What happens when a god and a mistake meet? What happens when neither will back down?

It’s all or nothing with us. Before our deal is through, one of us will have lost everything. I will not let that be me.

Welcome to the Court of Death, where all life comes to an end…

Court of Death

More steam than story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: ☹️😮😋
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Avea – she grew up in a world of Vampyrs. Though she is something different, a half-breed, though she doesn’t know exactly what she is. She has fangs like the Vampyrs but doesn’t have to drink blood. Though if she does, she gets extra energy. She also has special powers that the Vampyr’s don’t have. She doesn’t remember much from when she was young, just being alone. Till she met her friend Matteo. Now Matteo is married, and her life has changed since he nearly died, and she took him to the God of Death who saved him in exchange for ten years of Avea’s life.

The Hero: Death (a.k.a. Mors) – He is the god of death; he judges souls and guides them to cross over when they die. He has been unhappy of late because he is lonely, though he would never let any of the other gods know that. When a beautiful half-breed asks him for a favor, he breaks one of his own laws for her and makes her promise to live with him for the next ten years.

The Story: Avea hates Mors at first for basically imprisoning her in his home. It isn’t long before she sees him for who he really is. She sees that he feels for the souls he helps to pass to the other side. She decides to embrace her new life in the land of the gods. Though she decides to hold herself back from him a bit. He is waiting for her to beg for him, while she promises herself that she will never beg. Avea learns to help him cross souls over and sees how he can see snippets of their lives when he touches the souls in order to judge them and send them to the right place.

This ended up being much more steam than story, though the story picked up quite a bit in the second half of the book. I liked the paranormal background in this one, both main characters were supernatural, but nothing as mundane as shifters or simple vampires. So that was good. This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Tor Thom and Stella Hunter. I like both of these narrators quite a bit. Tor Thom has a super deep voice which is perfect for the god of death. Stella hunter always sounds very natural and has a great voice.
