Audiobook Review: Kodiak’s Claim (Kodiak Point, #1) by Eve Langlais. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kodiak’s Claim by Eve Langlais

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

He might growl, but she’s not afraid to bite.

Hands full taking care of his clan, the last thing this Kodiak bear needs is a woman poking her cute little nose into his affairs. But when she refuses to back down—and shows the courage to stand up to him—he can’t resist the allure of a curvy city girl.

She’s mine. All mine.

And when a rival clan thinks to use her to force his paw, he’ll show them why you never piss off a Kodiak, or threaten what’s his.

Tammy is convinced men are all scum, even gorgeous ones like Reid Carver. She knows he’s hiding something. Something big. She just never expected a real freaking bear hid underneath all those muscles. But when the truth comes out and he tries to scare her off with a roar, she shows him not just bears have bite.

Kodiak’s Claim

Too focused on the weight of the heroine!

The Hero: Reid – he is a Kodiak bear shifter and alpha of a clan in a small Alaskan town. He owned the trucking company that employed most of his clan and kept the town employed and supplied with groceries and supplies as well as brought all their goods to other towns. When a rival shifter group had been hijacking his trucks and disappearing some of his drivers, he struggled to keep his company running while waiting on the insurance money for his losses.

The heroine: Tammy – she is a human insurance investigator, who is sent to Alaska to investigate the company that had been filing large claims lately. She wanted to prove it was an inside job, hoping that her company wouldn’t have to pay out the claims. If she could prove it, then a promotion might be in store for her. Tammy recently got out of a bad relationship with a man who was cheating on her.

The Story: Tammy had been having trouble ever since she arrived in Alaska. The only way to the remote town where she was headed was to hitch a ride in one of Reed’s trucks that was headed back to the town with a load of groceries and supplies. When the truck got a flat and was surrounded by a pack of wolves, Tammy was “accidentally” drugged with a tranquilizer dart. She woke up in Reed’s house only to find that someone was trying to kill Reed and other residents of the town.

I tend to hate books where the heroine is a BBW. Especially ones like this where talking about her weight, her eating habits and the like is more of a plot than the actual plot. This one was obsessed with everything about her weight and the fact that she loved food and that her former boyfriends all expected her to diet. I got really sick of it early on. I am all about a guy that doesn’t mind some extra meat on his lady, but I hate when a book is all about that fact. I think one or two small mentions of the fact are enough without focusing on the issue and on every delicious meal she enjoys during the story.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Chandra Skye. She isn’t my favorite narrator, her voice is OK, but not great. Though she is good about using different voices for different characters. I had planned on listening to all three books in this box set, but after this one, I doubt I will move on to the next.
