Though Dominic’s stunning looks could easily make him a model, he’s the farthest thing from it. As a warlock and captain in the Magus Corps, he’s been deployed to bring Sophia into a witchcraft fold that she doesn’t even know exists. Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: ☹️☺️😊🥰
The heroine: Sophia – she lives in Milwaukee in an apartment with her cat. She has the ability to hide herself in the shadows so nobody can see her. She uses that ability in her job working for a private investigator. Though her ability doesn’t work if someone gets close enough to touch her. One night she is hiding in an alley, waiting for a cheating husband to come out on the balcony of his mistresses’ apartment so she can get some pictures of them. However, someone bumps into her right when the two of them are out in the open and she gets caught in the act by the man. A strange man saves her from being hit.
The Hero: Dominic – he was born in Italy over 500 years ago and is immortal. He is also a warlock. He works for Magus Corp. His current assignment is to look for a witch in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His friend gave him a spelled crystal which should glow brighter the nearer he gets to her. Though he thinks it might be on the fritz. The crystal got him to Milwaukee, but even since he arrived it has been alternately glowing and not glowing for a few minutes at a time. So, he decides to call it a night when he hears a scuffle in a nearby alley and saves a girl from what he thinks is a mugger.
The story: Sophia lets Dominic help her home after she is attacked, since she has a sprained ankle. The two are obviously attracted to each other, and Sophia decides to shed her usual reticence and hook up with the blonde hottie. Though in the morning, she gets nervous and hides until he leaves her place. Both Dominic and Sophia feel something more for each other than just a one-night stand, but neither of them understands their quick feelings for each other and they realize that they don’t really know each other.
I liked the story of Dominic searching for Sophia but not realizing that Sophia is the girl he is looking for. Though I wished there was a bit more background information earlier on about what the Magus Corps were and what they wanted with Sophia. There was also some craziness when Dominic found out the Templars were also in town. Apparently, there is a long-standing war between the Magus Corps and the Templars, though that wasn’t explained very well either.
