Audiobook Review: Jason (Blue Halo, #2) by Nyssa Kathryn. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jason by Nyssa Kathryn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Danger throws them together. Attraction keeps them from parting….

Having lost her best friend, Courtney Davies lives every day like it’s her last, because if life has taught her anything, it’s that some are cut far too short without warning. So when sexy former soldier Jason moves to Cradle Mountain, she shouldn’t hesitate to express her immediate interest. Problem is, anytime she gets near the man, she inexplicably freezes, losing every coherent thought in her head.

Jason Porter has served his country, studied at one of the country’s most prestigious schools, and made groundbreaking strides in pharmaceutical science, but it was his time in captivity that changed him most. In irrevocable ways, both physically and mentally. Slowly, he’s moving on, running Blue Halo Security with his team in Cradle Mountain, Idaho—where one of the best perks of the small town is coffee shop owner Courtney. She’s friendly, spirited, vibrant—everything he needs in his life. Too bad he seems to scare her senseless.

When Courtney wins an award, bringing with it media attention, she hopes it’s the break her shop has been waiting for. Instead, strange things start happening. Unexpected things. Dangerous things. It’s soon clear the award has put her in a spotlight for all the wrong reasons. And the one person she can trust? The very man who leaves her tongue, her body, and her heart tied in knots.

The heroine: Courtney – she owns a quirky little coffee shop in Cradle Mountain Idaho. She is very friendly and likes just about everyone in town, especially the guys from Blue Halo Security. She has had a crush on Jason, one of the co-owners of the company. Every time he comes around, she gets tongue tied and can barely speak coherently. It doesn’t help matters that she was attacked a few weeks ago and thrown into a freezer with a dead and decomposing body and she is now a bit claustrophobic, and he had to help her out a few times because of it.

The Hero: Jason – he had an advanced degree in pharmacology and had gotten a job with the government for project Arma. When he found out that the project was doing bad things, he left and was planning to be a whistleblower, until they captured him and made him a test subject in the project, experimenting on him with drugs and animal DNA, until he became one of a team of super-soldiers with enhanced abilities. He and his team had since escaped, and they all live in Cradle Mountain and own Blue Halo security.

The Story: Courtney got a visit from some FBI agents regarding her cousin Jessica who died a few years ago in a home invasion. They were looking for some information on a mafia crime family. It seemed that Jessica’s boyfriend at the time was being inducted into the crime family around the time Jessica was killed. Apparently, he was tortured and murdered not long after Jessica was killed and the FBI wanted to know if Courtney knew anything about it. Courtney didn’t know anything about any of that, though looking back, she remembers that she never did like Jessica’s boyfriend.

The storyline was good, Jason and his team had to protect Courtney from the mafia who wanted something from her. I like the bodyguard trope, and Jason was attracted to Courtney even before she needed protection, so that attraction between the two of them grew pretty quickly. I like the fact that the other guys had stories as well so you get an idea of what the next books in the series will be about. I plan to listen to more audiobooks in this series.

This audiobook was in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Addison Barnes and Troy Duran. Addison Barnes has a nice voice and sounds to be the right age for Courtney, she also has this way of talking faster at times, which is perfect for Courtney. Troy Duran is one of my favorite narrators, with a deep, sexy voice that I really love.
