My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Everything started when my brother Danny got nabbed by ruthless space pirates. But guess what? I’ve got some seriously interesting company on this wild ride trying to save him. There’s Yarrow, all mysterious and intriguing. Haze, who’s got this magnetic charm even though he’s always confused about social situations. Then there’s Prince, with charisma to spare who always tells the truth, and Bodhi, fearlessly charging ahead to run from his past.

Character development: ☹️😮☺️😍
The heroine: Cambree – her brother Danny was kidnapped by enhanced space pirates who planned to use him and others as captive slaves to work on their ships. Cambree fought against the pirates and lost; she came close to being taken as well but escaped through an asteroid belt. Now her ship is on its last legs, and she has come to the planet where Raven and her four enhanced soldiers live to ask for help. Cambree met Raven in the first book when she was blackmailed by Clarke into kidnapping Raven and returning her to him. Since then, Raven and her guys defeated Clarke and freed all the humans that Clarke thought he owned.
The Heroes: Haze – he is tall, enhanced, shaves his head, and has earrings in both ears, but somehow it works for him. He is charming in a very awkward way and is not at all good with people.
Bodhi – he is as handsome as any enhanced and has black hair and hazel eyes. He sometimes had nightmares about his past.
Prince – he is muscular with red hair and is honest to a fault. He is often very literal as well.
Yarrow – he is the tallest of all of them with platinum blond hair and bright blue eyes. He is in charge or the other three, or at least he was when they were super soldiers in the war. His team were in charge of fighting space battles and were the best at their jobs. Though now the four of them are more like family.
The Story: Haze, Bodhi, Prince and Yarrow inform Cambree that “the Five”, which is what Raven’s men are called even though there are only four of them now, are no longer taking jobs since Raven had a baby. Though after hearing Cambree’s story about the enhanced pirates, they agree to take the job themselves. They don’t want other enhanced out there giving them all a bad name.
The guys are all extremely sweet to Cambree. They lived around a bunch of fishermen near the sea, so none of them were particularly good at social niceties. They were not used to being around normal humans and especially women. So, they were quirky, funny, and sometimes downright adorable. And I must say that I really loved how the guys treated Cambree and took care of her, making sure she ate at regular intervals and got enough sleep, carrying her bags and so forth. They do all the cooking and cleaning as well. I wouldn’t mind having them for myself.
“Back in the day, when Clarke held me captive, I had sex with all kinds of people—not by my choice, and I usually didn’t even think about it anymore. I was so bad at prostitution, Clarke made me a bounty hunter instead, and he put my brother in cryogenic sleep to force me to obey him. The enhanced saw me as weak because I put myself in a situation where I could be blackmailed, and I refused to let these men think the same.”
I read the first book in this series over eight months ago, and I really liked it, though it was before this book was published. I am just now getting around to reading this book. I really enjoyed the first one, but since I read so much, I didn’t remember everything that happened only that the good super-soldiers who helped humans were fighting against the bad ones that thought they were superior and wanted to subjugate humans or take advantage of them like the pirates in this book. This book turned out to be as good as the first.
