Blood Red Kiss: A Vampire Romance by Jade West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had a dirty secret… Since I was a little girl, I dreamt of being bitten by a vampire.
Blood Red Kiss
I had always been desperate to feel cold, hard fangs in my neck, and have the blood sucked out of me by a beautiful creature of the night.
But when a vampire chased me through dark London streets, my bare feet pounding along mossy cobblestones as I ran, I quickly realized just how dangerous my fantasies were.
Hans Jacob Weyer was faster than me, and he didn’t care that my body wasn’t willing to be his victim. He pinned me to the wall that night and presented me with my first choice of many.
Choices that would tear my soul to the core and open trapdoors in my mind I never knew I had.
Family chains with a twisted path of torment and beauty. Openings to a new world I never knew existed; a world of witches and sages, and spirits of the dead.
And vampires…
Hans Jacob Meyer was a vampire on a mission. He was going to claim me as his and nothing was going to get in his way.
A psychic, a ghost whisperer, and a witch walk into a bar…

Character development: ☺️😍🥰😁
The heroine: Katherine Blakely – she grew up in the small town of Orcop, near Herefordshire in England. She was raised by her mother and grandmother who were both extremely devout women and Katherine always felt like the black sheep in her family. Her mother and grandmother always told her to stop being so fanciful and they chipped away at her self-esteem. So, she moved away to London and got a job as a bartender at the Regency, an elite gentlemen’s club where wealthy patrons came to unwind at night.
The Hero: Hans Jacob Weyer – he was a vampire who had been alive for more than 700 years, and he has been waiting for Katherine since before she was born. He watched over her when she was a child and rarely approached her directly while she was under the control of her mother and grandmother. However, now that she was on her own, he knew it was time to approach her. He was also a member of the Regency where she worked.
The Story: Katherine had known Hans for a while as a member of the club and she thought he was very handsome, but she hadn’t really taken stock of him until one night near Halloween. She had always been interested in vampire lore, movies, and television shows, ever since she was a child and saw them in cartoons. On that particular night before Halloween, one of the members of the club was dressed as a vampire and she couldn’t take her eyes off him. Hans noticed and mentioned that she seemed enamored with vampires. They got into a discussion on Vampires, and she let it be known that if they were real, she would like to be bitten by one.

After that night, Hans was in the forefront of her mind, and she could not get him out. He was in her dreams, which seemed very real and in her thoughts all the time. He pursued her as well. One thing that bothered me was when Hans asked Katherine who her favorite vampire of all time was, and she answered Gary Oldman as Dracula. There are so many good vampires out there to choose from, she did mention she liked Angel and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so that redeemed her a bit in my eyes. However, what about Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt from Interview? Or the Eric Northman from True Blood? Or really any of the handsome vampires from Vampire Diaries? We also can’t forget Jason Patrick as Michael in The Lost Boys, or even Wesley Snipes as Blade. So many good ones and she picks Gary Oldman? I don’t get it.
I am a big fan of the normal girl in a paranormal world trope and though Katherine isn’t really a normal girl, she thinks she is. She has a hidden history that she can’t access, though Hans knows about it and takes his time with her. The only thing I didn’t really like was how often the blood red kiss was referred to. I got a bit sick of it. This one was very steamy; so much so that I got a bit bored and wanted to get to the parts about his plans for her, why he waited so long for her and especially what was hidden away in her mind about her background, and why her family was so messed up. It seemed like every time Katherine started asking Hans questions and things started getting interesting, he would say, “No more questions now.” Though I have to admit, once she started getting her answers, I really started liking this one a lot more.
“I’m going to take your innocence, hard and fierce, and I’m going to drink an awful lot of blood from your throat to go along with it. So, please. Finish up your steak and we can get started.”
“My sweetheart was a vampire. A bisexual, murdering, vampire. A stunningly handsome vampire with a monster cock. And I was his witch. I wasn’t sure whether my cackling laugh was aloud or in my head.”
Another thing I wasn’t too fond of was the “Blood House”, which at first, I thought was just a place vampires could go to feed on willing victims. However, since biting and sex were so synergistic, it turned out to be more like a sex club that involved blood play. To me, wanting to bite or be bitten by others in that environment seemed too much like cheating, but Hans was all for it. He could even show Katherine visions of his past and he showed her visions of him with a lot of other people.
“Maybe I’m not quite the gentleman you think I am. I most definitely believe there is a lot more to a soul connection than blood play bites, but I come to blood houses for a reason. I’m not intimidated by you enjoying games of the flesh with other people’s fangs.”
“Oh, little one, you have no idea. I’m one of the primary blood players in all the world.”
