Timid by Devney Perry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.
Timid
Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.
Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.
A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.
Sweet and sexy relationship drama!

The heroine: Willa – she met Jackson not long after he moved to Lark Cove, when she was seventeen years old and still in high school. She knew she wanted him from the start. He had a job at the local bar. She had a crush on him for the next nine years, even after leaving for college and then moving back home to become the director of the local summer camp. He lived a few blocks away from her and walked home every night, by the park behind her house. One night while she is sitting on the swings in the park, he sees her there and they talk, before he walks her to her home over the garage of her parents house, where she has her first real kiss.
The Heroes: Jackson – he was abandoned by his mother when he was nine years old and never felt like he had a home until he moved to Lark Cove and started working for Hazel at the bar. She became a mother-like figure for him and his best friend Thea moved to town also to work at the bar. He had a lot of luck with the ladies, though none ever meant anything to him, and nothing lasted more than a night or two.
The story: After the best night of her life, Willa was exited to see Jackson, though when she showed up at the bar the next day, it was to find out that he had been drunk and high and didn’t even remember seeing her the night before. That was the final straw and Willa finally decided to get over her crush on Jackson. Little did she know that the guy who she had always liked, who always called her Willow since he couldn’t remember her name is Willa, was finally seeing her for the first time. He decided to pursue her, though she didn’t want to give in and get hurt again.
I enjoyed this book, it was mainly relationship drama, with not a lot of side storylines. Jackson had a lot of issues with his past, and didn’t really believe he could love someone long term. He had definite abandonment issues. Willa was a great character; she was always sweet and understanding but definitely wasn’t a doormat. I liked the path this story took and loved both characters, there were some great supporting characters as well. I haven’t read the first book in this series yet, but plan to read it soon. This one had some surprises which doesn’t have
This audiobook was narrated in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Maxine Mitchell and Aaron Shedlock. These are two of my favorite narrators. Maxine Mitchell has a great voice and is one of the best female narrators for dual narration, since her voice for male characters is pretty great as well. Aaron Shedlock is just as good for dual narration, and I love his sexy, gravelly voice.
