The Bear’s Perfect Match by Lisa Cullen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was on the run when I met Gage.
The Bear’s Perfect Match
I had no idea who he was.
All I knew… was that he was mine.
Gage rescued me when I was trying to escape my abusive ex.
I thought that was the end of my troubles.
But the nightmare had only begun.
The law of the forest had declared us married.
Yes, I was married to Gage.
A man I knew nothing about.
Not even the fact that he was a bear shifter.
And the king of the clan.
This may have come as a shock to me.
But it does make me his queen.
A queen who cannot be touched by anyone else.
One who only belongs to her king.
So, when Gage’s brother comes after me, I know it means war.
And I know that he’ll save me again… no matter what.
Good despite the insta-love and insta-marriage!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😆😎😚
The heroine: Luka – she is a writer and makes a good living writing paranormal mysteries. Though she has been suffering from writers block lately. Her mom died a few years ago and her dad died recently from lung cancer. Four months ago, she broke up with her boyfriend Jason, who was abusive and wanted to own and control her. He had been stalking her ever since. In order to hide from him and to change her life, she moved away from the city to a remote cabin in the mountains that her uncle had left her. It had all the amenities she needed, and she loved the clean air and only hearing nature outside and not the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Hero: Gage – he is a grizzly bear shifter and king of his clan. There is unrest between the bear shifters and a group of witches that want to take over the shifters sacred territory. There are also humans who would like to take over as much land as they can. Gage’s brother Amon would like to take his place as leader of the clan and would use almost any excuse to do that. Gage was an Army Ranger and retired early when his father died. He and some of his military buddies’ plan to open a high-end security firm.
The Story: Jason found Luka at her cabin not long after she moved in. He attacked her and out of nowhere, Gage appeared and rescued her. He tells Luka that she is his woman, and she finds herself agreeing. Then suddenly vines wrap around them like some sort of mystical bonding. Frankly, I thought it was a bit tacky and way too insta-love, insta-soulmates, insta-marriage. I wish it had stopped at him proclaiming she was his woman. Though even that was especially disconcerting, since Gage was fighting off a man that was proclaiming Luka “belonged” to him. It was like switching from one controlling man to another.
“Instinctively, I knew that I could trust him with my life—and my heart.”
“By the laws of the forest, which govern my people, when I declare you to be mine and you agree that you are mine, we are united. Married.”
The fact that Luka was a virgin was also a bit difficult to believe. She was a successful author in her twenties or thirties and had a boyfriend. So, the fact that she was still a virgin was a bit much. I like the idea of bear shifters, but it seems like every bear shifter book I have read is less than 200 pages, contains insta-love and is lacking in a real storyline and a realistic relationship. Though I was pleasantly surprised that despite the insta-romance, and the fact that Luka’s boyfriend showed up so early in the story, that this book ended up with some pretty good storylines. There were a lot of steamy scenes as well. I liked the characters quite a bit as well.
