Audiobook Review: Plus One (Lighter Ones, #1) by Aleatha Romig. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Plus One by Aleatha Romig

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A fun, sexy, new standalone from New York Times best-selling author Aleatha Romig.

He‘s sexy and confident, the kind of man every woman notices. You know, the one with the to-die-for body and panty-melting smirk. And then there‘s the way his designer suits drape over his broad shoulders and big…well, we‘ve all heard the rumors, the ones that say he‘s up for any challenge.

But I can‘t see him that way. He‘s my boss – technically one of the owners of the company where I work – and definitely not in my league. Men like him don‘t notice women like me, and they don‘t date them. And I don‘t date men like him. Until that one time that I catch him in a compromising position when I‘m also in need of a last-minute date for a wedding…and then it‘s not real. It‘s blackmail.

For one weekend, he‘s my plus-one.

Beautiful and unobtainable.

From the moment she walked into my office with those stunning blue eyes and crazy sensual curves, she‘s been on my mind. Three years and never once has she acted interested in me. Usually I flash a million-dollar smile and women fall to their knees, some literally. Not her.

Then on the occasion that I agree to let another woman do that – fall to her knees – guess who happens to catch us?

It may not be the most conventional way to get on her radar, but I didn‘t get this far in business without knowing when to seize an opportunity. If this sexy little firecracker with perfectly kissable lips thinks she can blackmail me into attending her cousin‘s wedding, I‘m going to jump at the chance to be her plus-one.

Plus One

Cute office romance!

The heroine: Kimbra Jones – she works in HR at Buchanan and Willis Pharmaceuticals and knows everyone that works there. One evening while out with a friend, she runs into Duncan Willis at a restaurant. He is out with a woman who also works at the company. Kimbra is attracted to Duncan though she thinks he is dating the woman he is with, until he later explains that it was a business dinner.

The Hero: Duncan Willis – Part owner of Buchanan and Willis Pharmaceuticals. He is extremely intelligent and the brains behind the successful business. He is attracted to Kimbra Jones but hasn’t quite been able to catch her attention. Though when she catches him in flagrante delicto with a woman in the bathroom stall at work, he has certainly caught her attention.

The story: Kimbra’s mom expects her to bring her boyfriend Timothy to the family wedding in Indiana. However, Kimbra broke up with Timothy six months ago when she found him cheating on her. Though she wants to bring a plus one, so her mom doesn’t fix her up with a local. Kimbra decides to blackmail her boss into being her plus one at the wedding after catching him in the bathroom. Duncan eagerly agrees to her blackmail, since he has wanted her for three years now.

The chemistry between the two main characters is explosive. I liked how strait-laced and naïve Kimbra was. Duncan jumped right into the fake romance. He was funny with it and certainly was a charmer. He was cocky, but came by it naturally, since many women tended to throw themselves at him (which is how he ended up in the bathroom with that woman from accounting).

This audiobook was told in two points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Samantha Prescott and Brian Pellino. Samantha has a sort of a deep voice for a woman, though it is still soft and feminine. I am not sure I like it, though I don’t hate it. Brian Pellino has a deep voice, and sound natural. He isn’t one of my favorite male narrators, but he does a good job.
