The Fall of Legend by Meghan March
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a new deliciously dangerous alpha hero in The Fall of Legend, the first book in the brand new and utterly addictive Legend trilogy.
The Fall of Legend
We come from two different worlds.
I’m from the streets. She might as well live in an ivory tower.
I made my living with my fists. I doubt she could even throw a punch.
Our paths never should have crossed.
We never should have met.
That doesn’t change the facts.
I would sell my soul to taste those red lips.
Fight the devil himself to hear her laugh.
Burn in hell to have a single night.
Scarlett Priest shouldn’t even know men like me exist, but sometimes temptation is stronger than will.
If this is how I go down, it’ll be worth every second of the fall.
Much better than I expected based on the title!

The heroine: Scarlett Priest – NYC Magazine’s most influential woman under forty. She is only 31 years old and the head of her own company. Her mother was a supermodel who died about 5 years ago and Scarlett has her looks, though is shorter than model height. She owned the House of Scarlett, a very successful fashion house started by her mother, which she has since sold, along with a shop of her own called Curated. She was kidnapped while jogging home from a photo op.
The Hero: Gabriel Legend – he is from the mean streets, a New Jersey transplant from a trailer park in Mississippi. He learned to fight from a young age. He owns a club called Legend which is not doing well. His friend Bump, kidnapped Scarlett Priest based on her profile in NYC Magazine. Before this, Legend thought if he ever went to jail, it would be for something he did, but now he isn’t quite sure. He needs Scarlett to help him with his club which is near to going under and he would lose a bunch of money, much of it isn’t even his.
The Story: Legend wants Scarlett to use her influence to bring people to his club, which had a huge grand opening party a few months ago which ended with gunshots being fired, so now the general public were not inclined to go there. Scarlett is not happy after being kidnapped, and not inclined toward helping Legend. Though he tells her she won’t like what happens to her if she doesn’t do it, but if she does this small favor, she won’t ever see him again. Scarlett ends up agreeing to his terms and she ends up doing what she can to build up his club. Not at all because she wants to see Gabriel Legend again!
Like most of Meghan March’s stories, this is one book in a trilogy. I usually like longer standalone’s and sometimes get mad at authors who always do trilogy’s rather than one or two longer books, but I have liked all of Meghan March’s trilogies, so I didn’t mind starting this one. I liked how Scarlett has a broken relationship with her father and is kind of a wimp with her boyfriend because of it. Also, how Gabriel thinks he isn’t good enough for her yet wants her from the start anyway. He has a tragic past that he knows some day he will have to deal with, before someone from that past finds him and comes for him.
I have to admit, I was wary about where this story would go based on the title of the book. The Fall of Legend, doesn’t sound like the story will end like I hope, since the Hero’s name is Gabriel Legend, though everyone refers to him as Legend and his club is also named Legend, I thought it could mean either or both end up in a bad place, but I also figured it could refer to Legend falling in love. That was my hope though I am not giving any hints as to what it ended up referring to. You will need to find out like I did.
I absolutely loved how cute Legend was when he was getting to know Scarlett. He would do things like walk his dog by her place, start writing texts to her over and over till he got it just right, tell himself that holding her hand was almost better than sex, and break his own rules over and over because he couldn’t stay away from her. Scarlett wasn’t much different. She would tell her friends about kissing him and they would get together to discuss what she should do next.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Joe Arden and Erin Mallon. I just love Joe Arden; he is one of my favorite male narrators. He always does a terrific job; he has a sexy voice and is able to sound so natural, not like he is reading, but like he is voice acting. Erin Mallon also sounds very natural and genuine. Her voice is soft and feminine, and she is great at sounding nervous.
