Playboy Pilot by Penelope Ward
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Money or love? Which would you choose? You probably just answered the question in your head thinking it’s an easy decision. For me, it’s not. Did I mention it’s a lot of money? A hell of a lot. I needed to go far away to think it through. As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation. Then, he left. I thought I’d never see him again. But fate had other plans.
Playboy Pilot
Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight. The bigger surprise was the adventure that followed after the plane landed. Carter was dangerous and always on the move. Even though our connection was magnetic, I knew it was only temporary. He would give me tickets, and I would follow him around the world to exotic places. A bevy of flight attendant exes and rumors about Carter’s reputation were never far behind.
I didn’t know what to believe. But I was addicted. Nothing else mattered anymore. And I was going to get hurt. Because a part of me wanted to be the one to finally ground the playboy pilot. At the very least, he was taking me on a thrilling ride. All good things must come to an end, right? Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
“No monkey business!”
“Well, not figuratively at least. There will be an actual monkey from time to time.”

Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Kendall Sparks – she is nearly twenty-five years old, and she grew up on a huge Texas ranch like the Ewings on that old tv show, Dallas. She is running away from an important decision she has to make. Which has to do with money, having a baby, and being twenty-five years old.
The Hero: Carter Clines (a.k.a. Trip) – he is a twenty-nine-year-old pilot who flies all over the world. He tries to find a Beatles song that represents every important event in his life. He grew up in Michigan, has two sisters, was the class clown in school. He dropped out of university to become a pilot. He has a condo in Boca Raton. He lost his high school girlfriend when he left for college, and it affected him deeply.
The Story: Kendall is in the bar at American Airlines looking through a magazine and trying to figure out where to go when a handsome man comes up to her, spilling seltzer on her designer t-shirt. She gives him a fake name and chats him up. Carter helps Kendall decide where in the world she wants to go on her trip. He tells her the flights leaving in the next three hours and gives her the pros and cons of some of the destinations. They decide that she should go to Rio De Janeiro Brazil.
It isn’t long before Kendall realizes that Carter is the pilot on her commercial flight when the captain comes on the audio and makes his flight announcements. She immediately recognizes his voice and finds out from the flight attendant (who blabs TMI about the fact that she used to scream out his name often) that the captain is indeed the same Carter that she spoke to earlier. She later finds out that a lot of the flight attendants have spent time between the sheets with the captain. Carter ends up taking her on an adventure when they meet up again in a cab outside the Rio airport.
I liked the characters and the story, though it got a bit boring when they were spending time together and getting along so well. I think it was the absence of any sort of conflict. Sometimes I am in the mood for a story like that, but other times it seems a bit tame and long winded. This was the case today.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Andi Ardnt and Sebastian York. These are two of my favorite narrators. Sebastian has a deep, gravelly voice that sounds so natural, and he is good at doing other voices for different characters. Andi has a clear, strong, feminine voice and the voice she uses for male characters isn’t too bad either.
