Their Dark Valkyrie: The Complete Series by Eva Chase
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Four scorching-hot gods. One kickass valkyrie. Nine realms of trouble.
Their Dark Valkyrie
All I wanted was to keep my distance from the criminals I work for and get my little brother out of the hell that is our mother’s house.
Then I died and woke up to four stunningly hot gods telling me I’m now a valkyrie.
Sly, sharp Loki.
Jovial but ferocious Thor.
Dreamily compassionate Baldur.
Grim and secretive Hod.
I’m connected to all of them through a bond we barely understand. The longer I spend with them, the more my walls start to crack.
But the gods didn’t summon me just for kicks. Their king is missing, and they need me to find him.
The first three valkyries they sent on the job never made it back.
More power is awakening in me than I could ever have imagined, but the gods’ enemies are more devious than even they knew. It’s going to take every trick in the book for me to save myself, my brother, and these divine men who’re getting under my skin in the most alluring way.
Good thing I’ve always been a fighter.
I’m Aria Watson, and Valhalla ain’t seen nothing yet.
Thor, Loki and more norse gods in a reverse-harem. Yes please!

World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏

Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Aria – she is a fierce young woman who grew up in the inner city with a neglectful mother and a string of her mothers often abusive boyfriends. She had an older brother that died when she was twelve and she has a young brother Petey, who is only six and still lives with her mom. She wants to eventually take her brother away from her mom and make sure he never gets hurt like she did. However, one day on her job as a courier, she is hit by a car and dies.
The Heroes: Thor, Loki, Balder and Hod – They are norse gods who are stuck on earth. They have created more than a few Valkyries with the souls of the newly dead, but each one so far has disappeared. They need a Valkyrie because they have a tether to Odin, and they are trying to find him so they can return to Asgard. They fight against monsters and dark elves who are trying to thwart their mission.
The Story: Loki has the idea to take a soul that is more of a fighter, someone who is street smart and able to take to her new life and thrive. They get Aria, who is exactly what they expect. They train her to use her new powers and inform her of their plan to find Odin. Though Aria just wants to escape and protect her brother. Hod is very wary of her and keeps a close eye on her, which he somehow can do, despite the fact that he is blind. He catches her when she tries to escape.
I liked the story and the plot of looking for Odin. You can’t go wrong with the norse gods in this day and age. I just love the Marvel versions of Thor and Loki, so it is easy to imagine these gods. I also really liked the fact that so much of the characters and the stories actually followed the mythology pretty well. Though of course, much of it did stay for this story. But I like it when you are reading, and you stop to Google something to find out how true it really is, and you find it is. Like the story of Balder and how he was killed.
Eva Chase always does a great job with world building and character development. I have enjoyed quite a few of her books in the past and you gotta love the fact that even though many of her reverse harem series are four books, she tends to always put them together in one complete series audiobook, so I don’t have to buy all four audiobooks separately. One thing really cool about this series was the fact that each of the characters had something in their past that they hadn’t gotten over, and they get put in this prison where they are each forced to face their past.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Aiden Snow and Samantha Cook. I love Aiden Snow’s voice; it is soft yet very deep and so sexy. He is terrific at using different voices for different characters, so is perfect for a reverse harem like this. Samantha Cook also does a great job and has a pleasant voice, which I liked. Nothing can ruin an audiobook more than just one annoying narrator.
