Audiobook Review: Chosen by Villains (The Heart of a Monster) by Eva Chase. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chosen by Villains by Eva Chase

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Three brutal monsters came to my rescue. Now who’s going to save me from them?

Every beat of my heart is the tick of a time bomb, reminding me to squeeze as many thrills out of life as I can. Still, the last thing I expect is a horde of nightmarish monsters descending on me in the night, eager to tear me apart.

So when three more demonic figures leap out of the shadows to defend me, my choices are trust my unexpected champions…or die. Not exactly a tough decision.

The beastly men wrench me away from my home, claiming they’ll keep me safe. They say there’s something special about me—something the others want to devour and they mean to protect.

My monstrous saviors are just as brutal as the creatures they fought off, damaged in ways I’ll never understand. I can tell they’re hiding things from me. But the more we dig into the mysteries surrounding my existence, the more I catch glimpses of tenderness beneath their vicious exteriors.

And the touch of their fangs and tentacles makes me feel so shockingly alive, it’s hard to remember why I ever feared them….

Until I discover the real reason they’re protecting me.

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Quinn – she is a college student who loves urban exploring. She feels her time on this earth is limited so she wants to live life to the fullest while she still can. She was often sick as a child and had a heart transplant years ago, which is why she feels she won’t live a long life. Her parents at one time were overprotective but they have come to an understanding now as long as she checks in fairly often. Though they might not be aware of her penchant for exploring buildings in the city at night.

The Heroes: Torrent, Crag, Lance – Shadowkind demons. They are higher shadowkind, which means they are able to think and plan and change into human like shells to fit it when needed. Lower shadowkind are driven by their base instincts and are animalistic.
Torrent – a water based shadowkind, he likes to spend his time in the ocean, far out past where humans like to spend time in the sun on the beach. He has tentacles that can be used as fierce weapons.
Crag – he is a shadowkind made of stone, a type of gargoyle with wings.
Lance – he is a dragon shadowkind, and like the other two, his human visage is extremely handsome.

The Story: Torrent and his guys are in the employ of a boss that wants them to keep an eye on a human that is rumored to be powerful in a way that can give that power to the demon that consumes her. The boss wants to be that demon that consumes her if the rumors are true, so he sends Torrent and his guys to keep watch on her. When they get to Jacksonville, they watch over her for months until one night, they find Quinn being attacked by other shadowkind, so they rescue her and take her away to a safe house on a nearby island and get to know her.

I love a monster romance. I was a bit worried at first when I found that Torrent had tentacles. I don’t like when the monsters are too different. Though I did like the fact that these monsters had their shadowkind forms and more human forms, which were gorgeous guys. I liked all the characters in this book, and it had a good plot. Though I do like standalone books, I am not too fond of starting a book and having to read four separate books and do four separate reviews to fully finish the story. You know what else I hate? When I buy the first books in a series of audiobooks and then later the series comes out as a single volume, so I could have purchased the whole series at one price or with one audible credit.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Aiden Snow and Amber Lee Connors. I love just about anything that Aiden Snow narrates. His voice is deep, soft and sexy. He is also great at doing different voices for different characters so is perfect for a book like this. Amber Lee Connors has a nice, intelligent sounding voice that is age appropriate for Quinn. I like her voice and after listening to a few audiobooks with female narrators whose voices grated on my ears, I was happy to listen to this one.
