Severed Ties by Montana Fyre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’ve spent my whole life running.
Severed Ties
Running from the sins of my father.
Running from my family.
Running in the opposite direction of anything that could hurt me.
But when it comes time to run for my life, I realize that’s the last thing I want to do.
And the man that’s been lurking in the shadows, the one I could feel but could never see, wont allow me to.
Tommy wants to own me.
He wants to possess me.
And I’m powerless to the pull his pitch black soul has to mine.
Can he keep me safe? Or was a lifetime of running all for nothing?

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚💜💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤓😘😄
The heroine: Clara – she grew up in a bad situation in Florida and now works as a personal assistant to the CFO of Frost Industries in Chicago and loves both her job and the city. She was glad to get out of the hell she grew up in and doesn’t even mind the cold winters. She is painfully shy and has trouble talking to men. Though she has fantasized about Tommy since she first met him at Frost Industries even though she is aware of what he does for the company.
The Heroes: Tommy – He grew up in foster care and is now the enforcer for Frost Industries. He kills and tortures people when necessary. Currently Frost doesn’t have any real enemies, but they recently were up against the Russo crime family and there was a lot of work for him. He has been obsessed with Clara since he first saved her from Angelo Russo and his cousin who hurt her. Since then, he started checking on her which grew to stalking and breaking into her apartment, setting up surveillance cameras, and he even sometimes lays in her bed next to her while she sleeps.
The Story: Tommy has feelings for Clara, but he tries not to get close to her because he thinks she deserves much better than him. She deserves a nice guy who loves her and gives her children and a house with a white picket fence. He is a killer and a fighter, he fights in The Circle, the newest fight club he and his boss are opening soon. He craves the violence of it all.
At first, I liked that Clara was so shy and reserved, but it became incongruous when we found out that she used to be quite different. Apparently, she grew up in a family that lived outside the law, and she rebelled. It was hard to picture a teen that snuck out of that kind of a house to go to parties being a shy little mouse when she grew up. Though she definitely did want to change a lot about herself when she left that behind, being shy like that seems like something that is ingrained not something you can change yourself to be.
I liked the fact that Tommy was so dangerous despite his childish name. He once lost all control when beating someone and is afraid that it might happen again, and he wouldn’t have the wherewithal to stop himself and if it happened when Clara was around, he could hurt her. He is so determined to stay away from her, but he just can’t help himself.
“I can’t really be considering staying with a man like him…can I? Sure, he’s a serial killer, sure, he likes to fuck rough and dirty, and he has a bunch of kinks I never thought I’d be into, but he also looks at me like I’m the only reason his heart beats.”
“Okay, I’ve officially lost it. But you try being fucked into oblivion by a crazy hot, tattooed psycho. It’s not as easy to resist as you would think.”
This story gets quite intriguing as it goes on and Clara’s past comes back to haunt her. I won’t go into specifics but to say that it got quite suspenseful, and I really liked how it all wrapped up.
