Audiobook Review: Wray (Tornians, #2). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wray by M.K. Eidem

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emperor Wray Vasteri is the ruler of the Tornian Empire, his House has ruled the Empire ever since the great infection struck over five hundred years ago and he fears he will be the last. The number of compatible females is dwindling faster than anyone knows and if compatible females aren’t found soon their entire civilization will cease to exist. It’s the reason he agreed to meet with Liron the Emperor of the Kaliszian Empire in Kaliszian space. The only reason they crossed paths with a Ganglian ship leaving Tornian space. The only reason the small female was discovered. Could she be what they’ve been searching for?

Kim Teel has had a hard life, at least she thought she had until her parents were suddenly killed and her sister disappears. At nineteen she realizes she’s been protected from all of life’s hardships, been taken care of her entire life, expecting and accepting it, she’d been terribly spoiled. Determined to change her ways, Kim goes looking for her sister only to be captured by the Ganglians and it is then that she learns what happens to the ‘unprotected’ females of the universe.

Wray finds himself drawn to the small female he finds beaten and abused on the Ganglian ship. She resembles a Tornian female but is much smaller. Could she be what he’s been searching for? Wray and Kim are both doing the same thing, trying to survive. But what they find is that there are more important things then just survival. And once they learn that the universe changes forever.

The heroine: Kim – when her sister and her sister’s husband disappear with a group of people, Kim goes looking for them and ends up getting kidnapped by aliens. The alien’s that grab her are Ganglians, a vicious race of aliens that can only get off with a woman when they are inflicting pain. Kim is brutally raped many times by a hairy Ganglian she calls Stinky Bastard. when a group of Tornians find the Ganglian ship in their territory and rescue Kim, who is near death.

The Hero: Wray – he is the Emporer and he immediately feels something for the tiny human who was so mistreated. His race is dwindling since the great plague which killed many of their species. They are cursed by the goddess since an Emporer long ago raped his daughters and ever since then most births result in only males. Now males outnumber females by a huge amount. So much that Tornian females are demanding and only get with males to have a few babies then leave them for another. They need to be given lots of gifts and jewels, which they take with them when they move on, and they are very demanding.

The Story: the goddess appears to Kim and tells her she is the start of something new for the Tornians. Wray immediately starts having feelings for Kim after saving her and taking care of her. They crash landed on a desert planet with a dust storm where they have to hide in a cave for days. Wray immediately sees many differences in Kim from the women of his race, not only in her looks but in her demeanor and her actions.

The story was good. I liked the romance between Kim and Wray, and I really liked the fact that much of it was about the differences in their races and how females are treated in his society. How they are protected so much so that they don’t really speak to men much and they can’t come and go as they please. So, Kim seemed very different since she spoke her mind and looked men in the eyes. She actually cared, which females in Tornian society didn’t do. They were just out for what they could get from males. Though I did think that much of the story and the conversations were overly simplistic and there wasn’t a ton of complexity to the plot.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Bennett Cousins, Commodore James, Laura Jennings, Robert Coltrane, Matt Weight, and Rachel Bieber. This is a full cast narration including background noises and it was done very well. I wish all books would be done like this, I will definitely be listening to more from this series.
