Catalyst by J.M. Madden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Raine Walters loves her nursing position at the Elton building. Though she hasn’t been on the job long, she’s seen and done some amazing things.
Catalyst
Because the men at the Elton building are not your average military men. They’re elite soldiers that have been tortured and experimented upon with an incredibly dangerous drug. The men are struggling to find balance as they work out their new abilities and recover their vitality.
Unfortunately, Haven, one of their most dangerous residents, leaves the facility behind to rescue a woman Raine isn’t even sure is real.
Noah Cross is settling into his new position at the Silverstone Collaborative as a patient liaison at the Elton building. No more bodyguard work for him. At least he thinks. When one of the patients escapes the recovery building Noah volunteers to go after him. Unfortunately, that means working with the beguiling young nurse he might have kissed recently.
Now they have to work together to find Haven and put out any imaginary fires he creates. But maybe they aren’t so imaginary, and maybe the woman they’re looking for is the catalyst of the entire Spartan program.
Another good book in this series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤨😛😁
The Hero: Noah Cross – He was a guard working for the Silverstone Collaborative and was part of the Marathon research project. As a result of that he has been “Enhanced” and can heal faster, move faster, and hear better than normal humans. His job was to protect the son of the owners of the Silverstone Collaborative. Most recently he has been named patient liaison for the patients the Collaborative is trying to help and learn from. Since he had the same Marathon drug, he is the perfect person to work with the patients.
The heroine: Raine Walters – she is a sweet southern girl who works as a nurse for the Silverstone Collaborative. The Collaborative is trying to right the wrongs that the former CEO did and is now taking care of the former prisoners who were tortured and experimented on. Raine is the nurse to many of the patients who are recovering from devastating torture. She tries to remain a sunny spot in their day and is always thinking about new ways to help them and brighten their lives.
The Story: There is one patient, Haven, who is very traumatized from what he went through and the serum they used on him gave him the ability to manifest lifelike images of whatever he wants. Nurse Raine is able to get through to him a bit more each day and he was a fascinating character in this book. There were other patients that had different fears and issues and Raine is extremely good at helping them to settle down and work through their issues.
The character development is terrific. I like the fact that Noah has enhanced hearing and that it sometimes causes him problems because it is hard to filter out all the sounds around him. They actually made his apartment lead lined so he can have a place to go where it is completely quiet. When Haven disappears from the facility, it is Noah and Raine that try to find him to make sure he is OK, since he had recently been worried about a dangerous female called Belladonna and people that were going to try and get him back because of what he could do.
The world building was great, there was a lot of political intrigue in this one since the Dogs of War were going after a senator and the secret service was involved as well. They work with the CIA and even got a General of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to help them out. I just really wanted them to get the Senator because he was evil, and he thinks he can do anything he wants no matter who he hurts or kills. I just love to see people like that get what is coming to them in a book or movie.
