Review: Destruction (Dogs of War, #2). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Destruction by J.M. Madden

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Going back into the torture camp where he’d been so brutally abused is the last thing Navy SEAL Drake Fontana wants to do, but if there are other men being experimented upon he has to be the one to get them out. And he has to give them an option other than to be a test subject to the Silverstone Collaborative, the pharmaceutical company funding the diabolical experiments.

If he had his way, Drake would go in alone, but he’s assigned a team of retired, disabled military from the Lost and Found group. They all have strengths, but he hates being responsible for their safety. The most vital of the team is Jordan Madeira. The woman has fire in her blood and her heart, and she has contacts in the Amazon he could never find on his own.

More than that, though, Jordan holds an immediate, dangerous attraction for Fontana. As the team crosses the jungle destroying research camps and searching for survivors, he realizes that she is what his heart has always been longing for. Home. But Fontana has always had to fight for everything he’s gotten in life, and Jordan’s heart will be no different.

Destruction

Lots of action, some payback and surprises too!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤨😛😁🥰

The Hero: Drake Fontana – he is a former Navy Seal that volunteered for a special research project creating super soldiers in the Amazon using a plant that local Amazonian medicine men have been ingesting for years which has been reported to cause them to have special abilities. Though the volunteers from the special forces of thirteen different countries hadn’t known they would end up being prisoners who were experimented on in the most torturous of ways. Fontana and his friends, The Dogs of War, escaped and now he is returning to help those that are still being held prisoner.

The heroine: Jordyn Madeira – she is former military and works for the Lost and Found group. They are a group of disabled military veterans who run an investigative service company dedicated to helping veterans. She has contacts in the Amazon and will be accompanying Fontana and others from Lost and Found to try to help the prisoners in the three research camps they know of.

The Story: The three “Dogs of War” that escaped from the camp in Brazil, all have enhanced abilities, including increased strength, speed and healing abilities. They also have increased intelligence and powers of the mind, which include the ability to sway people, some telekinesis, and the power to read emotions of other people. Fontana has the strongest mental capabilities of the three and he has worked on his powers the most. So, I was very exited to read his book. That and the fact that he was the one that was going to go in and try to rescue more men being held prisoner and brutally experimented on like he was.

I really liked Fontana from the beginning, of this series and even though his abilities were stronger than the others, he seemed to have suffered something more when in captivity than the others. He has the worst PTSD and can’t even sleep without loud music on to drown out the screaming he hears in his dreams. Jordyn, who was also hurt while in the military, seemed the perfect strong woman for him. There was a lot of action and adventure in this one with the team bushwhacking its way through jungles to each research camp. I got really invested in what they would find at each camp, and I wanted them to kick some ass and save some people.

I have to say, I really liked how this series was set up. The prequel was the time in Captivity and the escape through the Amazonian jungle. The first book was the love story between a cop, Angela and Aiden along with the story of the two years The Dogs of War were on the run, the second book was the love story between Jordyn, a military helicopter pilot with ties to Venezuela and Fontana with them returning to the jungle to rescue the more of the prisoners and the third book is the love story between Wulfe, the last member of The Dogs of War and his informant within the Silverstone Collaborative, the company behind everything and they will hopefully take down the evil CEO Damon Wilkes and get their retribution. I don’t know about the books after that one, but I know I can’t wait for Retribution.
