Review: Mutt (Cyborg Shifters, #4) by Naomi Lucas. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mutt by Naomi Lucas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

BEWARE OF DOG

Clara was confused when she encountered the sign outside the Cyborg breeding facility. She wanted a child and nothing would stand in her way. But she didn’t heed the sign’s warning—she had more important things on her mind—and once she understood, it was too late. Her heart was already on the line.

Reid was the ultimate protector, the perfect bodyguard, his loyalty embedded in his DNA. The animal his creators chose for him was a favorite, a downright blessing, and an ongoing nightmare. He found the perfect reprieve after the Great Galactic War: Division Head of the last Cyborg breeding facility on Earth. The empty halls offered more than silence—they offered him sanctuary.

Territory.

When a woman walked through his door, begged to join the program, and wouldn’t take no for an answer, her delicate features and desperation awakened a behavior that had long lain dormant—his need to claim.

Mutt

Steamy cyborg doctor dog!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤨😛😁🥰

The heroine: Clara – she only ever wanted a normal life, a husband, children and a home. However, her fiancé recently broke up with her after finding out about her baggage. The baggage, Santino her sadistic ex, was just released from prison and she was sure he would be coming after her. So, Clara ran. She ran as far as she could think. She had just enough money saved to be on the run a few months, and she was determined to live her life without a man. Which is why she was on her way to a cyborg breeding facility with the hopes of getting pregnant with a baby she could raise alone.

The Hero: Reid – he was a shifter cyborg with a tendency to shift into a beast and never want to shift back. He was in charge of the cyborg breeding facility and often had to turn away humans who came looking for something that they didn’t provide. His heart was frozen by his choice of a career.

The Story: If Clara was accepted into the cyborg breeding program, her life wouldn’t be her own for the next three months. She would get three tries to get pregnant and would stay at the facility and be monitored 24/7 to make sure she didn’t do anything to jeopardize the process. She needed some reconstructive surgery before she could get pregnant since she had been stabbed in the stomach and lower by her abusive ex. If she were to get pregnant, she would have to stay at the facility for the duration of her pregnancy and the months following.

I liked the premise of this book, though there were some things that bothered me. For one thing, Reid and a metal dog were the only beings Clara saw at the facility and she never saw them at the same time. That and the fact that his name was Dr. Reid Canis, should have alerted her to the fact that he was the dog, even if she didn’t know cyborg shifters existed and thought Reid was only a standard cyborg. Yet, it was obvious that Clara had no idea that the dog was Reid.

This book was quite steamy and I really liked the scene where the two main characters finally got together, it was very hot. There wasn’t much romance, just a ton of chemistry and mutual attraction before they hooked up. Though the world building and character development were great in this story.
