Blown Away
Astrogeologist Breeze O’Day won’t trade her perilous career for anything. Taking a research job on a faraway alien world to escape her abusive ex-husband, she can’t wait to bring her findings back home and announce a game-changing discovery. But when her ship is swept up in a catastrophic sandstorm, her gratitude at being plucked from certain death quickly sours when she realizes her savior is a rude, ill-mannered brute.
If Tack Grayson wanted company, he wouldn’t have moved to the middle of nowhere. Still suffering from PTSD after killing a shapeshifter disguised as his wife, the furloughed cyborg soldier’s instincts compel him to rescue the passenger of a crashed hovercraft. But as he forces himself to care for the injured and strong-willed woman, his gruff exterior crumbles as unexpected attractions ignite.
After Breeze recruits her host’s help in securing her valuable data, she struggles to admit that her initial unease has morphed into undeniable chemistry. But as Tack’s haunting past catches up to him, he fears giving into his feelings will only rope the gorgeous scientist into his own misery.
With trouble on the horizon, will this star-crossed pair forge a path to happiness?

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔😅😂🤣
The Hero: Tack – he was living on a desert planet called Sajave along with Bandit, the dog who stowed away on his spaceship. He even applied for permanent homestead on the planet. He spends his days brewing beer and going on long walks when the dust devils weren’t scouring the land. Tack was a member of the C Force, the “most elite intelligence and fighting force in the galaxy”. Though he was on mental health leave for a year due to personal trauma and PTSD because he was forced to kill his wife in the line of duty. He didn’t trust himself to go back to work, he considered himself a danger because he was twitchy and paranoid.
The heroine: Breeze – she is an astro geologist and works for Geo-Tech on the planet Sajave (named for the Sahara and Mojave desserts on Earth). She moved to the planet to escape her abusive husband and she still had problems when men invaded her personal space, even if they were friends. The government paid Geo-Tech to study the sand to see what could be done about it to make the planet more habitable. Breeze recently had a breakthrough of epic proportions, though wasn’t making it known until she had all the data to back up her findings. Her discovery would lead her to fame in scientific circles, which could also be dangerous for her, so she still hadn’t decided what to do.
The Story: Tack had discovered his wife was a shapeshifter and had been forced to kill her, though it really screwed with his head. He didn’t know if the woman he fell in love with was killed and taken over by a monster or if she had really been a monster in disguise all along. He didn’t trust his own judgement anymore. He had no neighbors and lived hundreds of miles from the nearest city. Breeze was in a transport to the eastern Geo-Tech office in Stadt, when a sandstorm hit as she was napping, and she had veered way off course. Breeze ends up on Tack’s property and he rescues her from the storm.
I liked these two characters, and the storyline was really interesting. Breeze’s discovery was not at all what I expected and really changed things up. Though it did feel like it ended with a lot of things still unresolved. I realize that some of it is going to be ongoing storylines, but I do wish more would have happened and been resolved in this book. It just felt a bit unfinished.
