Brayden’s Return by Michelle Dare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
For the last several years, Brayden felt like an outcast amongst his friends. Since the day he saw a man shift into a wolf, he knew he no longer belonged in their circle. They were immersed in the paranormal world while he was away at college, living the life of an ordinary human.
Brayden’s Return
One night while he was walking home, he saw a dog in need of help. Turns out, it wasn’t a dog at all.
Kandra was a wolf shifter on the run. She’d fled an abusive relationship, running from a male she once thought she could trust. As a lone wolf, she was free, but she was also slowly dying.
Pack life wasn’t something Kandra wanted, and she never thought she’d trust another male. Yet, she trusted Brayden. In him, she found the opportunity to join a new pack—shifters who would be there when she needed them.
But the past came calling, and they would take back what was theirs.
Kandra’s life was in danger and Brayden would do whatever it took to keep his mate safe, including asking a vampire to bite him. His new life was extraordinary—because she was in it.
With his vampire given powers, Brayden was ready to fight for the one he loved. Now all he had to do was find her.
Vampires, shifters and humans, oh my!

The Hero: Brayden – he is a human whose best friends are paranormal; he left the Avynwood pack to go away to college. He is living life as a human, a poor college student. Currently his roommates left to go home for the holidays since the heat isn’t working and it is winter in upstate New York. He has bulked up recently and now has been taking hand-to-hand combat class at the local gym.
The heroine: Kandra – she is a wolf shifter who was running away from her physically and mentally abusive pack alpha. Since it was winter, she couldn’t find any game in the woods. She came into town as her wolf to scrounge for food, when three guys assaulted her wolf and had her cornered.
The Story: When Brayden is on his way home one evening, he comes across three men abusing a frightened dog in an alley. He doesn’t back down from a fight against the three men and kicks their butts pretty quickly. As soon as the guys leave and he gets a look at the dog, he realizes it is a wolf shifter. He tells her that he is friends with shifters and tries to help her.
Other than that, I really liked this story. I liked that Kandra came from a bad background and though she was supposed to be stronger than Brayden because she was a shifter and he was human, it turned out that he was the strong one. She needed help and to be cared for and he was able to do that. Not only because he was strong and a fighter, but because he had so many paranormal friends to help her also.
Solomon is one of Brayden’s friends and offers to gift some of his powers to Brayden through a vampire bite, but Brayden declines. That is just stupid. I mean what normal human who has paranormal friends, wouldn’t want vampire strength or the power to read minds or teleport. Declining the offer just about ruined the story for me. I thought that would have been a great side story, with Brayden getting some awesome powers. Although, I was glad things ended up how they did.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Sarah Colton and Troy Duran. I really like both of these narrators; Sarah Colton has a great voice and sounds age appropriate. Troy Duran is one of my favorite male narrators, his voice is deep and sexy, and I love just about anything he narrates. Both are terrific at showing emotions through their voice.
