Audiobook Review: Crown of Stars by K.A. Knight. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Crown of Stars by K.A. Knight

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Crown Princess of Zyria was born to wear the crown….but what if she wants more?

My life was organised since birth until the carefully constructed plans exploded like a supernova. The lick of flames began when I decided to sacrifice myself for my planet and my people.

Abducted into the stars I dreamed of, I have no choice but to embrace the part of me I have always hidden—the fighter, the warrior, and the imperfect, crass woman who doesn’t resemble the impeccable princess I am expected to be. Instead of using my silver tongue to fight my battles, I now hold true weapons, and for the first time since the crown was placed on my head, I feel whole.

Evil is flooding the galaxy, and for some reason, destiny has chosen me to stop it. The only problem is, I don’t know how. Luckily, I meet some men along the way who are willing to follow me on this mission. If the king could see me now, draped in leather and wielding pistols and knives rather than wearing ballgowns and reading old scrolls, he would collapse onto his golden throne.

Now, I fight my way across the cosmos to try and stop the destruction of everything we know.

I was ready to give up my life, my future, and my body, but I never expected to lose my heart along the way.

Stars, don’t let me fail now.

Crown of Stars

“The princess, the criminal, the warrior, the soldiers, the rebel, the machine.”

The heroine: Saffron – the Crown Princess of Zyria. She was raised to be intelligent and proper. She has an instinctive kindness that will serve her well one day when she becomes queen. She is beautiful and respectable but is also bored with her life. Though she does train with her guards, so they are more friendly than one would expect. Tradition says she will one day be queen, but all that means to her is she will be forced to marry the man her father chooses, and he will be king, she will be nothing more than the bearer of his children.

The Heroes: Calax – he is a guard and has been caught more than once watching princess Saffron. He is assigned to protect her. He comes from a legendary race of warriors and his world was wiped out, only one hundred of them who were off-world training survived. The king found him, and he was brought back to life by the princess.
Artium – he was one of the humans that was taken by scientists and experimented on. He is now more of a cyborg than a human. He is stronger, faster and will not die. He he hasn’t spoken in the 60 months he has been with the princess, and he is her shadow.
Gunner – he is of mixed heritage and is a twin to Saber. He has PTSD from when he was a young boy and had to sell himself to feed his brother and mother.
Saber – Twin to Gunner, considered the prettiest of her guards. He is happy go lucky and always has something to say. He helps his brother get through his nightmares.
Axel – he is a thief and a smuggler who once decided to go steal from someone when he was drunk and was caught. As a prisoner he was left on a nearly uninhabited planet where he had to fight in the arena.
Lachlen – he is a rebel leader on a space station, who is after a dangerous weapon. He wants to get it out of hands that might use it and plans to leave it with a peaceful culture who will never have cause to use it. He is after the aliens that destroy worlds.

The Story: One day while getting ready to go down to a dinner party, a fleet of ship enters the atmosphere of the kingdom. They think the ships are the guests, but they are an invading force who attack, they are the destroyer of planets. Saffron knows that her kingdom was unprepared for the fleet of invaders. She knows they need to surrender or bargain. Her people will be destroyed if they surrender. So, she does what is best for her people and offers herself if the invaders will leave the planet and her people alone.

The four guards go after Saffron, but she is also trying to get away and get back home, so this book shows their journey to find each other again and she meets a few more men along the way. It was an interesting story for an alien romance. I like it when there are different settings, from a spaceship to a mining planet and more. I also like the adventure of a story like this. Though there were a lot of men in this reverse harem romance, each of them has a different story and personality. The world building and character development were great.

I’m not saying there weren’t problems, there were some plot issues. During one firefight, another ship blows two of the rebel ships away in a matter of seconds each, yet before they can blow the ship away where all of our main characters were, there was time for Saff to say a long goodbye to each of her men. Also, six men in a reverse harem are just too many. There were a LOT of intimate scenes, I like when the main characters can get to know each other deeply rather than just be intimate all the time. Plus, as my review title suggests, there were a few breakfast club moments that were kind of sappy.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Aaron Shedlock and Elizabeth Russell. Aaron Shedlock is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a deep and sexy voice and is great at doing multiple voices for multiple characters. This was my first-time hearing Elizabeth Russell, and she has a feminine voice which is a bit lower than some female narrators but still very pleasant.
