The heroine: Joni – after the majority of men on Earth were killed after a pandemic, women were left with not many options. Though it was discovered that most races on other planets were compatible with females from Earth, so the off-world singles program was created. Females from Earth pay 20 grand for a chance to find a husband on another planet. Joni was happy to be chosen for the program but ended up being captured by Meranian slave traders.
The Hero: Kyele he is a Jutak warrior, and he has always known he was a ruthless killer. They are the strongest military force in the universe. They have been working to end Meranian slave trading and rescue any slaves they find in the process. They have been searching for the biggest slaver of them all, a Meranian named Lothar. Kyele is a mysterious figure, with some dark abilities that not even all of his Jutak brothers are aware of. He is the son of General Azar of the Spektar army and his human slave Victoria.
The Story: Joni and Sylvia are held together by the slavers, and they both have continually fought against their captors. When the Jutak warriors attack, Joni and Sylvie are able to kill their guard and escape with the Jutak warriors. Joni has been through hell, and no longer wants to find a husband, but she is attracted to Kyele from the start.
There was quite a bit of mystery in this book and I liked the story. Kyele has some abilities/powers which are kind of secret and he thinks he is too dangerous for Joni, since he is a killer and is good at it. Though from the start, she likes him and feels safe with him. Her past comes back to haunt her and there is a lot going on but the attraction between them can’t be denied. I liked Joni as a character because she was fierce even though she was afraid. She wants to be able to take care of herself and actually is pretty good at it. I also liked that she is softer than she seemed in Arak’s Love.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via Duet narration. It was narrated by Char Adams and Ryder Watkins. I like the fact that each book in this series is narrated by different narrators. This series is a weird form of duet narration with the male narrator doing every chapter (the thoughts and actions), no matter who’s POV the chapter is in, but the actual spoken words are done via dual narration. There are also full background sounds like alarms, walking, doors closing and more. Ryder Watkins has a very pleasant voice and does a good job, Char Adams also has a nice voice which isn’t too feminine but isn’t too harsh either.
