Warrior Fae by Caroline Peckham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I once thought one of my ruthless boys could be the killer I’m hunting. They’re all dark, deadly, and more than capable of brutality. But now, I’m held by the King I’ve been stalking in the shadows, and when I unmask him, he’ll realize he made a huge mistake in taking my brother from this world.
Warrior Fae
My Kings are coming for me, I know that in my soul. They’re on their way to rip me from my enemy’s arms and tear him apart for me. My heart beats to the sound of their names. But I won’t wait around to be rescued. Everything has led me to this moment, and I’m ready to destroy the Fae who stole my brother from me.
Secrets will be uncovered. Destiny will be decided. Death will deliver us all in the end. No one will escape the conclusion of this story without blood on their hands. I guess it’s a good thing I’m a vampire then, because I just so happen to have a taste for blood.
The only book I’ve ever read with a dicksplosion and a rat stuffing ass bandit!

The heroine: Elise Callisto – a vampire fae with the elemental power of air. She came to Aurora Academy to find the king that murdered her beloved brother Gareth and is now in love with the four kings of Aurora Academy. They are all working together against the king who they think murdered Gareth and is plotting to rule the fae world. His name is King, and he is the leader of the black cards, a cult using dark magic to steal power from fae they force to commit suicide.
The Heroes: Gabriel Nox – a harpy with two elemental powers and the strongest fae at Aurora Academy. He has wings and he renews his power via the morning sunlight. He wanted Elise for himself but has finally come to accept the rest of the guys. He also has the sight and can see into possible future events.
Dante Oscura – a storm dragon shifter and the leader of the Oscura gang. His uncle Felix had hooked up with King and the black cards and he’d been stealing the children of the gang, he recently stole and tortured his own daughter Rosalee who was under Dante’s protection.
Leon Night – a namean lion shifter with the fire elemental power. He is the Elysian mates with Elise but wanted her to have the other three guys as well as himself. He was responsible for helping them all to come together. He comes from a family of thieves and his brother Rory was arrested by the FIB when he got caught after a heist.
Ryder Draconis – a basilisk shifter with the elemental power of earth. He is the leader of the Lunar Brotherhood, who are a rival gang to the Oscura clan. He is dark and broody, and pain (his own and others) is what renews his power.
The Story: The gang gets into a whole heap of trouble in this book. King and his Black Card brethren are after them throughout the book. They are separated for parts of the book, and it seems that every time they get a little ahead of their problems, something else happens to threaten them. There are some big surprises and lots of danger. They also face trouble from their own gang members when it comes out that Ryder and Dante are both with Elise, and even more trouble from the head dragon shifter, Lionel Acrux who wants to use Dante for his own ends.
The best thing about this book (and the whole series) are the characters. Elise is probably the most boring character of all, though she is certainly tough. I love all her guys, who each have their own distinct personalities. Leon is often the comic relief, but you just have to love him and everything he does. Gareth is such a nice guy despite all the terrible things he had to do. Though everything he did was to save his sister, so you can’t really blame him for that. Rosalee and Rory were also great, and I have wanted them to end up together since a few books back, though she still has to grow up. The rat shifter Eugene came into his own in this book and I was happy about that. Ethan Shadowbrook was also a nice surprise as Ryder’s second.
The audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Troy Duran and Angelina Rocca. They have done a fantastic job on this series. Troy is great with different voices for the different male characters. The woman who voiced Elise was changed in this book, which I didn’t really like, but Angelina did a terrific job as well.
I have really enjoyed listening to this series, which was a long one. The stories and action were awesome, and the romance was steamy and always interesting. This audiobook was over 29 hours and there were a lot of intimate scenes, and action throughout which really kept things moving. I loved the humor mixed in and the ending was great, but I was surprised that a few things felt a bit unfinished even after the length of this one. Though they were fairly minor things.
