Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Hadleigh – She is a social worker who will do whatever necessary to protect the children she feels responsible for. She had always wanted to be a social worker, but never knew what pressures the job would entail and she was kept awake at night by the thoughts of what she couldn’t do or what she could have done better. She is changing up her approach and focusing more on the families where the children were placed.
The Hero: Donovan – he works for RAPTOR and loves his job. As a former Army Ranger, the missions they go on as RAPTOR agents are similar in danger and intrigue to what he was doing in the Army. He is on a mission to stop an online predator who goes after children and he will pull out all stops to successfully complete his mission.
The Story: Donovan, and his partner Charlie are investigating a pedophile and the house they are out in the field and have the possible home of the suspect under surveillance when they see Hadleigh go up to the house, then come out with a child, go for a walk and return, she does the same with another child a few weeks later, so they don’t know if she is one of the suspects or what. When they find she is a social worker, they decide to pool their resources and give each other information, especially after Hadleigh sees some things that make her think something may be really going on at the place.
I like that RAPTOR was being paid by the government for the mission and they were trying to get an ongoing government contract for similar work. It just made me feel good that the government was trying to do something about this issue. I also loved that Hadleigh isn’t the typical social worker who has blinders on. It seems social workers are always portrayed as uncaring or too busy to look into things, when really people don’t go into social work unless they care. It certainly isn’t for the money. Though it did show how her hands were tied about what she could actually do since she just had suspicions and no proof. The whole investigation was very interesting.
This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Rose Dioro and Troy Duran, two of my favorite narrators. Troy Duran has the perfect voice for an alpha male former military man and Rose has a very pleasant voice which sounds age appropriate and is perfect for Hadleigh.
