Review: Machine by Lizzy Bequin. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

He’s got me right where he wants me…

Zoe:
As soon as I saw the lifeless, derelict research vessel, I knew we should leave it alone. But I never expected to find myself caught in a nightmare such as this.

Captured by a rogue A.I.

His bionic tentacles have dragged me deep into his lair. He says I’m his specimen now. He says he’s going to examine me. He says I will teach him how to be a man.

And to make matters worse, he’s creating an artificial body for himself.

A brutal, dominating body, layered with hard, bionic muscles.

I should be trying to run for my life. But my body is responding to his curious touch in unexpected ways.

Shameful ways.

Now escape is the last thing on my mind…

“She broke my programming. Now I will break her…”

Eon:
I’ve never seen a specimen quite like her before.

When my digital mind was damaged in the catastrophe, I lost all memory of women.

Zoe will help me recover it.

I will study her habits. I will study her emotions. And most of all, I will study her soft and fertile anatomy.

I will be exceedingly thorough.

This female specimen belongs to me now. She is mine and mine alone.

I will not share her. I will never allow her to escape.

There is so much she can teach me about being a man.

And I’m so very eager to learn…

AI to cyborg!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️😊😒🥹

The heroine: Zoe – she lives in the basement of her stepfather Norris’ pirate spaceship. Her mom took off a while back and stole some money from Norris so Zoe is paying it back by working for him. She is a hacker, and she loves growing things, though her room has no lights and Norris won’t pay for grow lights, so her garden is in her head. Lately Norris has been leering at her and she doesn’t want the day to come when he takes it further.

The story: When the Pirates see a huge research vessel just floating in space with no signs of life, they decide that it is money in the bank and land their ship in the docking bay on the vessel. They find dead bodies of soldiers all over and when they get further, they are attacked by well-armed spider drones. The path back to their ship is blocked so Zoe takes off down an empty corridor while the rest of the pirates are killed by the drones.

The Hero: Eon – he is an AI with control of his own little space on the research vessel. While another AI named Archeron has taken control of the spider drones and wants inside of Eon’s room, Eon’s doors are too thick, and he won’t give up the little human that stumbled in after getting shot. He has metal tentacles for arms which he uses to pull the female further into his domain so he can examine her.

With the help of Zoe, Eon designs a holographic image of her idea of a perfect man. He has her choose a body type, a face, a perfect male appendage and more. Once done, Eon creates an actual body for himself using his Universal Constructor (which he had previously used to fix her wound and replace the blood she lost from a bullet wound to her chest).

This story was quite different than anything I have read before and I liked the originality and the fact that it was true science fiction, not just a human female being abducted by aliens and ending up on a planet that is less technologically advanced than earth (which is the majority of alien romance). It was definitely insta-love and was a short read (136 pages). I think it would have been better as a longer book, but was interesting nonetheless. Not all the technology made sense, but I liked it overall.
