Audiobook Review: Creed (VLG, #8) by Laurann Dohner. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Creed by Laurann Dohner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Angel was whisked away from a life of abuse as a child when a guardian angel flew her in his arms and gave her to a Lycan couple to raise and love as their own. It was inevitable that she developed feelings for her elusive savior, the GarLycan who protects her pack. As she matured, those feelings deepened to something more once after spending time with him, only to be rebuffed by her hero. Dejected, Angel left the pack, moving away to distance herself from the pain. Now, years later, her mother has called her home. Their pack guardian is in need…

Creed is emotionally distant and cold. He’s had to become that way to survive his harsh life. His one weakness is Angel. She deserves a happy life, something that he can’t give her. He was born into servitude and isn’t allowed to take a mate. But, every thirty years he goes into one night of heat. The ravage is upon him, and Angel is determined to be there for him. He’ll take her to his lair, chain her down, and finally be able to touch her…

Creed and Angel soon discover their one night of bliss has dangerous consequences

Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Angel – she was starved and abused as a child by her father and stepmother. One day a big man with wings saved her. His name was Creed and he told her that he was her guardian angel and took her away and gave her to new Lycan parents who would love her and care for her. The couple wanted a child more than anything and he promised that she would never live like that again and that her new parents would make sure she was safe and happy.

The Hero: Creed – he is a GarLycan and he has made sure to turn off his feelings after he was given to the council as a child by his parents and put into a kind of indentured servitude. When Aveoth took over for the GarLycan clan he gave Creed a decent assignment away from the clan, protecting a pack of Lycans. The only time he had felt anything that let him know he was still alive was the day he found Angel and gave her to her Lycan parents.

The Story: 24 years later, Angel had moved from Alaska to Washington State for work. Though she is back for a visit after getting a call from her mother that sounded urgent. Her mother told her about ‘the ravage’, which is when male GarLycans go into heat, and it happens once every thirty years and they need someone to be intimate with.

It is a ritual of sorts which includes the female being tied to a bed and ‘ravaged’. Prior to being mated to her father, her mother was chosen by the guardian before Creed. The ravage is now upon Creed, and he asked for volunteers. Nobody volunteered because the women are afraid of him. So, her mother asked Angel to step up because if nobody else does, Creed could die from it.

Angel had a crush on Creed and once put herself out there for him only to be rejected. She has hardly spoken to him since but doesn’t want him to die or go crazy. This was quite a different storyline than all the prior books, but I liked it. Creed was a nice guy, but he was forced to turn his emotions off and seemed so lonely that you had to like him.

This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Savannah Richards. She has been doing a terrific job on this whole series so far and I am so surprised that I haven’t gotten sick of her voice or the series yet even though I have listened to them one after another.
