Audiobook Review: Brawn (New Species, #5). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brawn by Laurann Dohner

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One look at Brawn, and Becca is wondering how he’d look without his clothes. He’s also instantly attracted to her, but has sworn never to touch a human female. They just aren’t sturdy enough for the type of rough sex Brawn enjoys most. When he learns he’ll be living under the same roof with Becca, Brawn simply sees it as a chance to broaden his knowledge of humans. Hopefully he can do so while keeping his hands off her….

His good intentions go astray when they’re both kidnapped and locked together in a cage. Brawn finds himself reliving a nightmare when he’s once again subjected to breeding experiments at the hands of New Species’ enemies – who will use Becca to get what they want. Brawn and Becca will have to depend on each other if they hope to survive.

Listener Advisory: While each New Species book is a standalone, the greatest enjoyment will come from reading them in series order.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💚💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓😉🤨😊
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Becca – Her father is having a New Species man move in and wants Becca to leave her house which is the guesthouse on his property and he wants her to move back in the main house. She refuses to leave her home. Her father had been with the military for twenty five years and he now found and saved New Species. Brawn is replacing an injured person on the team and the team can’t live on the New Species compound, they have to live near the rest of the team. Her father orders Becca to stay away from Brawn.

The Hero: Brawn – Brawn was taller and more muscular than the average human male, had keener senses, cat-like eyes that can see better than humans, and other enhancements that made him New Species. His job would be to make first contact with New Species that they found and rescued from the centers. He was to make them comfortable so they knew they were being rescued and didn’t fear the people on the rescue team.

The Story: Becca was attracted to Brawn from the first time she met him. She had been married before and her husband, Bradley had died, so she tended to feel guilty with other men, but she didn’t even think of Bradley when she looked at Brawn. She moved him into her house, but didn’t move out like her father had wanted. Brawn wanted to learn more about humans, and was attracted to Becca but never wanted to be intimate with a human as he thought they were too fragile and he would hurt them.

There were some things I really liked about this story and things I didn’t. Becca got sloppy drunk near the beginning and I didn’t much like that. Though I liked the character of Brawn and how he learned about humans through watching TV and Movies. It was kind of funny how he learned things from watching porn, so wasn’t sure what was real and what wasn’t.

This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. I like Vanessa’s voice which is soft and feminine and she is able to do different voices for different characters very nicely. I would rather this series be dual narration, but at least there is a good solo narrator.
