Audiobook Review: Mr. Mysterious (Mister, #4) by J.A. Huss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mr. Mysterious by J.A. Huss

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Paxton Vance isn’t as cryptic as he thinks. That broody nature and tough-guy exterior aren’t fooling me one bit.

I know everything about him. I listen in on his most personal phone calls. I read his mail before he does. I even know what his mother got him for Christmas last year.

You’re the man of my dreams, Paxton Vance. You just don’t know it yet.

But don’t worry, I’ll remind you. I’m here to give you everything you need, before you know you need it.

So don’t get defensive because I take a challenge seriously. You have to open up to someone, and that someone is me.

Besides, you can’t stay Mr. Mysterious forever. Why play the game if you never want to win?

Romance: ❤️💙💚💛

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Heroes: Paxton Vance (a.k.a. Mr. Mysterious) – He is a Fixer for the elite and the famous. He helps them take care of problems, big and small. He is called Mr. Mysterious because his friends never know what he is doing or much of anything about his life. Though they call him when they need something. He has a big house in Malibu that he sometimes rents out for $200,000 for a summer, but this summer he is staying there. He is the illegitimate son of a Hollywood Icon and his mother comes from Kentucky thoroughbred breeding money.

The heroine: Cindy Shrike (a.k.a. Cinderella) – She is sister to Oliver Shrike (Mr. Match) and daughter to Spencer Shrike from Spencer (Rook & Ronin, book 5). She thinks that Mr. Mysterious and her are perfect for each other and plans to get him to fall in love with her, though she doesn’t mention that she is Oliver’s baby sister. She is a private investigator with a firearms permit, has a masters degree, she own’s a sandwich shop, drives a powder blue VW bug, and is quirky and pretty and a liar.

The Story: Pax has been ordering sandwiches all summer and has been flirting with the delivery girl every time. He plans on taking it to the next level, but is surprised when she tells him they are soul mates and she plans to move in with him and become his assistant in his business. Cindy has known all about him for years, but has been biding her time before making her move.

Pax was at the top of his class his senior year at brown when that girl accused the Misters of rape and his life changed forever. He hates the fact that it dirtied up his mothers clean family name. Even though they never went to trial. Pax knows that since someone targeted Mr. Perfect, Mr. Romantic and Mr. Corporate, he is most likely next. Cinderella is determined to find out what really happened that night and to clear all their names.

I liked both of these characters from the beginning. The way Cindy got Pax’s attention was really cute and I loved how interested he was in her despite not wanting to fall for her tricks. She was a total stalker girl, but it all went just the way she wanted it to.

Much of this book takes place during the same timeframe as Mr. Corporate and Pax was a big part of some of the action in that book, so some related scenes are shown in this book from his point of view. I love the scene after he finds out that she is Mr. Match’s little sister, then goes and gets drunk on Mint Julep’s and Margarita’s. The fact that Cinderella turns the big bad Mr. Mysterious into a Mint Julep lover is so funny to me.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Sebastian York and Elena Wolfe with Rob Shapiro as Mr. Perfect. These are some of my favorite narrators. I just love Sebastian York’s gruff and gravelly deep voice and Elena has a soft and feminine voice. Both of these narrators always do a great job and this book is no different.
