My world is crashing down around me. Everything I knew is a lie and the men, the men in the masks, tell me that as they steal me away into the night.

Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰😘
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Genevieve – she was brought up poor by her father and did whatever she could to make a better life for herself. She is far from that little girl now. She has a business she loves, a penthouse, a makeup artist, a stylist and a face and body that many would love to have. However, she doesn’t feel like herself. She is dating Chaz, who is a dapper aristocrat and a charmer who makes Genevieve weak in the knees even after 3 years together.
The Heroes: Archer, Gage, Booker and Eric – Booker is an American and ex-military who lifts weights a lot and acts as the muscle for the group. Gage is a weapons expert from the streets, he is a bit grumpy, but quiet and unassuming. Eric is the youngest, the panty-melting bad boy of the group and is tall and blonde. Archer is the leader of the group, and great with tech. They are burglars who rob the wealthy.
The Story: Genevieve has everything she ever wanted, but it feels hollow to her. One night when she goes off to a charity ball for her own children’s charity when her life begins to fall apart. She catches her fiancee cheating. Meanwhile, her penthouse is being robbed and Archer and the guys get curious about the owner when they are going through the apartment. They find a worn sofa; cheap costume jewelry and they find nothing worth stealing which surprises the lot of them.
When Genevieve returns to her penthouse early, the guys end up taking her hostage and they go to a cottage in the countryside with her. While trying to come up with a new plan, they slowly get to know her and she them. Genevieve finds herself attracted to each of the four guys and they find her sympathetic, especially after realizing she is more like them than they originally thought.
The story is interesting and reminds me a bit of Den of Vipers which I really enjoyed. Though it took a while to really understand the guys and why they were outlaws, why they were even burglarizing Genevieve’s apartment to begin with. I love that this was a standalone RH, so often the good ones are series and I get tired of reading or listening to entire series sometimes. I love that, like DoV, this one is a longer standalone (544 pages, 11 hours). I wish more authors would do that.
This story was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Rebecca Woods and Will Thorne. Rebecca has a great voice and a posh British accent; she does a great job and shows a lot of emotion through her voice. Will Thorne is good as well. He is good with doing different voices for the different male characters. It helps that they have different accents. I also loved the fact that each of the characters has a fully developed personality and the guys all have pasts, with former relationships that didn’t end well and they have their own pain and issues.
