Star Lord meets Samantha Stephens!
The following ratings are out of 5:
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🤭😮🥰
The heroine: Lacey – a human female who runs an an animal shelter in the town of Magic New Mexico. She lost her husband three years ago to a bus accident and promised herself she will never fall in love again because it hurts too much.
The Hero: Frost – a Star Ranger, which is basically a space cop. He hunts down prisoners who have escaped from various prisons throughout the Galaxies. He doesn’t really like his job but it pays very well and he has saved up enough to retire to his home planet and never worry about money again. He and his brother built a hotel and casino business over the last 15 years and his plan is to move there.
The Story: The town of Magic New Mexico is a town where magical folks can hide out from the rest of the world. Lacey and her Aunt Topper are two of those people. Lacey has the ability to do telekinesis, teleportation, heightened senses, she can perform magical spells and more. The town is also filled with various magical creatures such as Trolls, ghosts, fairies, shapeshifters, witches and others.
Frost has to take one last job before he can retire and that is to track an escaped convict that he initially put in prison after that convict killed several other Star Rangers and has since killed eight prison guards in his escape. The convict, Taar, crash lands on Earth, which to Frost is a planet in its infancy and is forbidden to space travelers, so he is tasked with getting there, apprehending Taar and leaving without anyone knowing, he is authorized to kill or wipe the minds of any who see him or the reptilian convict.
This book is told in dual points of view and narrated by David Brenin. He is a fine narrator but his voice isn’t deep enough for my liking. Especially for a tall, well built alien Hero. I like a super deep voice but that is just personal preference. Also I will take points of the narration for having only a male narrator when the book is told from both main characters points of view.
I liked the idea of the alien coming to Earth where he thinks he is coming to an undeveloped star system, a planet with primitive people and he ends up meeting a woman who is his fated mate and who turns him into a bunny within the first few minutes of their meeting. I also like that Frost has his own pretty cool abilities which all have to do with ice.
