Sleeping With The Beast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sleeping with the Beast by B.B. Hamel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars.

A Possessive Mafia Romance

I know what those hands have done— and it’s not pretty.

Except maybe I like it a little ugly. A little twisted. A little broken.

Ren’s the kind of man I’ve spent my life running away from: big, gorgeous, arrogant. He thinks the world revolves around his biceps.

When I’m nearly killed in a drive-by shooting gone wrong, my father packs me up and ships me off to Philly, “for my protection,” whatever that means.

Enter Ren, my new bodyguard. He wants to be the last man I ever need. I think he’s so full of it, he’s about to burst.

But when a new war breaks out, I’m right back in danger

And Ren says he’ll do anything for me.

I say, I want him to prove it.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤

The setting: Philadelphia, PA

The Hero(s): Ren – Small time thief and occasional thug. He works for himself but recently did a job for the Leone crime family. Now Vincent Leone is asking him to be the bodyguard for a girl he is protecting.

The heroine: Amber – daughter of one of the Chicago Capo’s she was sent to Philadelphia to get away from some trouble in Chicago after an incident. However, since two gangs have combined to start giving the Leone’s trouble, she now needs protection in Philadelphia.

The Love Story: Ren is attracted to Amber right off the bat, though she is young (around 20), which is a decade younger than him. She doesn’t think she needs a bodyguard and she wants to go home to Chicago. Though she knows it is dangerous and doesn’t really know where she fits.

Amber was hurt back home which is why her father sent her to Vincent. She knows what she doesn’t want and that is a man that is associated with the mob. Even though Ren is technically not a made man and wants to stay away from the Mafia, he took the job of protecting Amber because the price was right and he planned to go back to doing his own thing as soon as he finishes the job.

However, he is a thief and a thug and Amber doesn’t see him as any different than the men that hung around her father all her life. Though after Ren saves her life, she begins to see him differently. The story is good, but not great and the romance is hot but not as steamy as most B.B. Hamel books. This is one story I could take or leave and I usually like her books a lot more. I guess maybe I am sick of the Leone family. Especially Vincent.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
