Shameless by Katherine Hawthorne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Great ending to a stellar series
The romance between Sin, Xander and Belle has been almost as complicated as the series of crimes they have been involved in and are investigating throughout these books. Just when you think they have everything wrapped up, something else happens. Of course, the crimes are involving human trafficking, and there are always more even if one is solved. But the the author was able to transition from one crime to another throughout the series and tie them all together very nicely.
At the start of this book, Belle had left both Xander and Sin because she couldn’t choose between them. So she decided to choose neither and leaves both of them. However, Xander and Sin each thought that Belle chose the other and were separately torturing themselves with the thought that she was with the other. It isn’t until something happens with Xander that they finally get together and figure out she left both of them.
Like the other three books, this one has a ton of action, mystery and suspense. Sin’s two brothers Rafe and Kade played big roles in this book. Cade is Belle’s “Knight”, so named because he first introduced himself as her “Knight in shining armor”. He has been watching over her throughout these books and helped her to get away, with the promise not to tell Xander and Sin where she was. But he watches her through cameras to check that she is alright. Kade and Belle don’t have any sort of romantic relationship but he is like a big brother to her. Sin was unaware until the end of book 3, that his brother knew Belle or vice versa.
I really liked how this book flowed and I was really surprised at a few points. I love books that are unpredictable and keep you on your toes. I won’t spoil anything but I really liked how it ended and I hope Katherine Hawthorne’s next book is about Kade and has these characters in it also. Rafe is just as interesting as he is an FBI agent, so a book about him would be good as well. Whatever her next book is about, I plan on reading it!
